LOST SOULS Falls Short of Estimates

By Steve Biodrowski     October 17, 2000

It was a slow week for genre entertainment in theatres, with only two devil-themed horror films finding a berth in the Top Ten. In 3rd place, Lost Souls fell short of Monday's estimates, with $7.95-million, nearly half a million shy of predictions; in 6th place, The Exorcist managed $5.24-million, bringing its re-release total to $30.53-million. (In general, the recent spate of demonic horror films have not done well, and it will be interesting to see how the release this Friday of the Faustian comedy Bedazzled turns out.) The only other science fiction, horror, or fantasy films to earn over $1-million at the box office were Digimon: The Movie in 11th place with $1.94-million ($7.33-million total) and Urban Legends: Final Cut in 13th place with $1.21-million ($20.16-million total).

Below is a list of the final figures for the weekend box office. Included are the Top Ten films, plus any other science fiction, horror, and fantasy titles to rank in the Top Sixty.
