Lt. Gordon's Family Set For BATMAN

Two more additions to the THE DARK KNIGHT cast this morning. Melinda McGraw (from CBS's CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE) has been cast as Jim Gordon's wife and Nathan Gamble (BABEL) has joined as his son.

They join an already stellar cast comprised of hristian Bale (Batman), Heath Ledger (The Joker), Morgan Freeman (Lucius Fox), Michael Caine (Alfred), Gary Oldman(Gordon), Aaron Eckhart (District Attorney Harvey Dent), Maggie Gyllenhaal (Rachel Dawes), Eric Roberts, Anthony Michael Hall & Nestor Carbonell.

I'm curious on the announcement of this casting, Maniacs. Does this mean that Gordon's family plays more of a role in THE DARK KNIGHT?

I don't know Bat-History 101, but I thought that Jim had a DAUGHTER, not a son?

I'm just asking, not trying to start a "Where's Batgirl" BS thing, just a bit confused.

Bat-History 101,

In the comic Jim Gordon's wife leaves him with his son. Barbara is his Adopted Daughter.

Maybe Joker's going to kidnap Gordon's family and he has to turn to Batman for help; further cementing their relationship. I can just see it now. Gordon's standing next to the bat signal on the roof. Batman appears silently behind him...
"I'm here."
Gordon spins around, startled. "He has my family."
"I know."
"Find them. Get them back. Stop him, I don't care how."
"I will." And Batman goes over the roof.
"God help me, what have I done."

He already had a wife and son in the last one, what happend to them?

Nice bit of dialog there, wessmith! That would be a nice way of further developing these characters; in particular, for Batman to receive a sort-of official blessing for an "ends justify the means" style crimefighting technique could further put him through the wringer down the line...

Obviously they were just recast as happens when you move extras out into the light. I don't care we're Barbara comes from I think it would be cool to have her make an appearance. I kind of like that The Batman cartoon introduced Batgirl before Robin and I think it would be cool for them to do the same thing here...

Do you mean the current Batman cartoon.

'Cause I think the 90s series did introduce barbara Gordon before Robin, but Robin was established well before she became Batgirl to save her father Jim Gordon. Excellent multipart premier by the way. Great way to introduce the character

didnt Gordon have a baby boy in BB? i thought when he was taking out the garbage, a baby was crying.

but yeah the older son would equal to the passage of time between both movies (though i wouldnt imagine there would be too much time between the two)

and i dont think that batgirl or robin should be introduced in Nolan's versions simply because, looked what happened last time they came into play. Obviously the source material wasnt in very good hands last time, and handeled appropriately, the characters could be a lot of fun, but i wish they would just have batman for a few more films
