Lucasarts LIGHTSABER Game for WII?

Can you imagine standing in front of your television with the Wii-mote firmly in your grasp ready to do battle in a lightsaber battle? Well, it may be sooner than you think, Maniacs. At the Hollywood & Games Summet in Los Angeles, Lucasart's Jim Ward addressed this much asked question.

"What would it take to make a lightsaber game for the Wii?", Ward, who is President of LucasArts and a Senior VP at Lucasfilm, commented:

"We’re all over that, and internally we have already played a lightsaber game on the Wii. It’s a lot of fun, and we’ll get there."

He added that the whole concept of a title using a lightsaber of Nintendo Wii was "...in place! There’ll be some stuff out this Fall - it’s going to be a lot of fun."

He could be talking about the upcoming LEGO STAR WARS: COMPLETE SAGA game which hits the WII later this year. Then again, he could also be talking about future Lucasarts games solely designed with the Wii-mote technology already in mind. Either way, it sounds sweet.

Holy shit yes!! I am all for a lightsaber game. If they can port Jedi Outcast, both KOTORs, and make a new one exclusively for the Wii, my wife and I would be in heaven!

I agree that Outcast would be fun with the Wiimote. I'd like a new game, preferably something in the good Star Wars game column and not one in the "sucks" genre.

Almost makes me want to buy a Wii...

"... and internally we have already played a lightsaber game on the Wii. It’s a lot of fun..." this one little line is so damned cool I don't even know what to say. it shows the full measure of how skilled they are over there at LucasArts/LucasFilm, etc. that they could, as a hack, a test, a prototype, or just to have fun, put together a lightsaber Wii game and play it amongst themselves. (any one who watches those behind the scenes star wars bits knows just the model makers and digital techs fool around and doodle - and are encouraged to do so - and the stuff they make looks better than most of the finished works from other studios.) I don't even have a Wii (yet) and I can't wait.

Once you have a Wii, definitely get The Godfather, Resident Evil 4, and avoid the Wii Play; Wii play is weak and why pay ten exra dollars for a mediocre game? Save your ten bucks and get the Wiimote separately and an extra nunchuk controller. Far Cry isn't THAT bad but sure isn't setting any records except for quickest game to go to 20 dollars; decent FPS but again, not that great. Red Steel is OK, nothing great either but anything with FPS and a sword is ok. The controls in Godfather are WAAAAAAAAAAAY better as well as in RE4. Best port for Wii so far. And if you like golf, Tiger Woods' Golf is clutch.

The great thing is that you can actually headbut your opponent and then slash him with your lightsaber. Ah, good times.

Back in January, me and my friends were joking around about how compatible a STAR WARS lightsaber game was with Wii. Now, if we could just get a BlastTech game, like Duck Hunt, then the circle would be complete...
manjisan 6/28/2007 7:49:34 PM
the circle isn't complete until they can get a game like street fighter and mortal kombat down to wii remote & nunchunk combos (X, Y, Z coordinates, etc) to emulate the power moves. DBZ supposedly offered that but I was disappointed and traded it for godfather.

"Can you imagine standing in front of your television with the Wii-mote firmly in your grasp ready to do battle in a lightsaber battle?" Is this a rhetorical question or are you seriously asking? F***, YES! I have imagined it since the debut of Nintendo Revolution (aka Wii). I mean it's about frickin time LucasArts got around to do it! Unless LucasArts devote some of their resources to making another KOTOR sequel for PC, NDS, and Wii, stop making games for the other consoles (the ones I don't mention) and focus on this one.
