Bandai Entertainment Inc. and Kadokawa Pictures USA announced at Wondercon that the LUCKY STAR OVA would be released in North America. Based on the manga by Kagami Yoshimizu, Lucky Star has already been adapted to anime as a 24 episode series currently available on DVD from Bandai Entertainment and Kadokawa Pictures USA. The OVA (Original Video Animation) features short anime vignettes of the series characters. Lucky Star’s main character is Konata Izumi, a lazy high school girl who isn’t interested in anything besides anime and video games.

Lucky Star Vol. #1 was voted as the best release of May 2008 here and was in competition for the best release of 2008 overall. The series continued to be popular with fans throughout its release but the sales of the limited edition versions weren't holding up as the sixth limited edition release was recently canceled outright. Sales of the series overall must be doing well enough however to bring out the OVA which will be very god news for fans of the series.
