Spinner Rack: Comics on Sale February 3rd
© Mania

Scapled, Sweet Tooth, Nova, Invincible Iron Man, Boys, and Siege all drop this week, and all would likely have made my top ten list, but instead we’ve got something a lot more awesome in store as the Luna Brothers stop by to share their combined ten favorite comics, both past and present.

Regular readers of the Spinner Rack have heard me crow about the duo, one of the most original creative teams in comics today. Check out their list, then check out their sublime work on Ultra and Girls and the currently running, thousands of years spanning epic, The Sword (issue #21 in stores now). Find out more at lunabrothers.com. Now without further ado...

THE LUNA BROS' TOP TEN

Cover art for THE SWORD #21 by Jonathan Luna

Walking Dead
There's a reason why this is one of the top "indie" books in the industry.  Great writing with a sincere look at a world overtaken by zombies, and classic, masterful art that makes you feel the bleakness this story deserves.  - Jonathan

Locke & Key
A new favorite of mine.  So innovative, fun, and CREEPY. - Jonathan

Blade of the Immortal
An epic revenge series.  One of the books that inspired our series, The Sword. - Jonathan

Invincible
An incredibly fun playground of superheroes and supervillains. - Jonathan

All-Star Superman
This made me love Superman again. - Jonathan

Death Note
To be honest, I only read the first 7 volumes, but I’ve never read such a captivating page-turner like this in a long time.  I was also especially impressed with how much thought went into the rules and the world of Deathnote, which allowed the writer to play with all the elements of the story quite masterfully.  - Joshua

Stray Bullets
I love how real the characters are. No true heroes or villains, just flawed, effed-up people. - Joshua

Preacher
After a very long hiatus of not reading comics, this is the book that revitalized our love for them. - Joshua

Powers
One of my all time favorite Bendis books (or books, period).  Shiny spandex-clad superheroes juxtaposed against a brutal, gritty crime drama were the initial draw, but the characters and stories grabbed me for years and years.  - Joshua

Punisher Max (Ennis)
Personally, this is Frank Castle as I've always imagined him.  A relentless, brutal, unforgiving force of nature. - Joshua

Siege # 2...cool. thor should be mad as hell right now....maybe Ares will see the light of day and realize in on the wrong team.

lister 2/3/2010 10:55:34 AM

It's all about Siege 2 this week, 'natch.

I guess I am ready for some Superman World of New Krypton to FINALLY finish up. I just wish it seemed to be more resolution instead of a lead-in to the next Super event.

Is Blackest Night still on? This is taking for-ever.

Nova was really interesting last month, but I don't like dream episodes with alternate reality superheroes. Still, good stuff with the Sphynx. Just seems like this story isn't really tying in to the rest of the Rift and Realm of Kings when it's just a "dream" episode. And I hate dream episodes.

Cable
has been an horrid series. A real time-waster. But I've stuck with it this long, might as well see the trash to the curb. The only thing worse is the threat of more Deadpool.

Oh god let Iron Man's current arc END already. Enough! (plus, dream world so: lame!)

Realm of Kings Son of Hulk: sorry Marvel. You aren't gonna sucker me in on this one!

lister 2/3/2010 10:59:26 AM

Okay I like Doom as a character, but his overuse is getting out of control. He's got too many things going on. He's in the Cabal, he's fighting Thor, he was just in the future with X-Factor, he's fighting with Namor, he's squabbling with Brother Voodoo, he's got Doomwar coming up, he just met his master in FF (oh that was so bad)... and some more I am probably forgetting. I get that the guy is smart and powerful and stuff, but for me this is too much Doom! There are other villains...

dracor00 2/3/2010 12:53:04 PM

he is also in current xfactor with a FF cameo thing they have going on currently lister

cdale78 2/3/2010 6:42:41 PM

lister, thanks for the recommend on R.E.B.E.L.S.  Great book.  Never read any Vril Dox before, but he's jumped up on my favorite character list already.

I also think Doom is overused lately.  Seems like Marvel put him off limits for a while and now he's back in play and everyone wants to use  him.  As much as I liked his appearance in Thor, I thought it was a bit out of character for him to be serial murdering asgardians.  Seemed off to me, maybe it's just me.

lister 2/3/2010 11:11:05 PM

If you're thinking there's too much Doom with that avatar of yours, then there is definitely too much Doom.

dbrock06 2/4/2010 3:53:28 AM

I thought Siege #2 ROCKED!!!!  Get it if you didn't already buy it.  Things are going to be interesting in the next couple of months.

CaptAmerica04 2/4/2010 7:36:52 AM

Siege #2: Ares gets smoked by Thor.  PLEASE.  The biggest d-bag god gets hammered (no pun intended) by the biggest badass god.

I'd like Jennifer Love Hewitt's musical box.  Gimme gimme gimme!!  I want it ALL over me.  I... oh... that's not what you meant.  Nevermind.

Again, I have to complain, Ben.... WTF?  Why the hell have you stopped alphabetizing the Spinner Rack?  It's just not as user friendly now.  Help us out here.  Please.

cdale78 2/4/2010 7:57:48 AM

I agree on Seige #2.  Definitely the big budget action movie type of comic a crossover should be

dbrock06 2/4/2010 8:21:34 AM

Pretty sure it wasn't Thor.
