No Loki for Avengers 2

Whedon reports...

Empire Online dropped some interesting news over the weekend for the Avengers Sequel. It’s interesting, but not surprising. Loki (Tom Hiddleston) will not make an appearance in the follow up film. Fans should already know that Loki will return in Thor: The Dark World. Will his fate be sealed in that film? Joss Whedon had this to say to Empire Magazine, during a podcast:

"Everyone is going to be looking for the Loki-Hulk smash moment and you'll be looking for [a quim moment]. First of all, imitating what I did before is the surest way to do it not as well. Second of all, Loki's not there to say those terrible things. Although I do think we should bring the word back, not as an insult, it's just a nice word."

With the addition of the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver the Avengers Sequel already seems packed with characters. Will it be Thanos as the heavy? There are still so many things to happen before the summer of 2015. Who knows how the Marvel Cinematic Universe will take shape.

Good. Too much sugar spoils the pudding.

Agree tallman.

Plus he's been front and center in 2 of their biggest films and has what appears to be a major role in Thor TDW too. Yeah a little break is welcomed.

I firmly believed Thanos wouldn't be the big bad for A2. I'm wavering a little but still think he'll be saved for the threequel and would be surprised if Loki doesn't have a major role in that one

I like Loki, but he is not needed in A2. I really hope its Thanos as the heavy - just wonder who will play him?

Agree with tallman.  We need to move FORWARD now, and see something different.  Thanos, or the Masters of Evil (I'm gonna beat this drum to death, people.  You are forewarned).  Something new and different is good.  Let the character of Loki go.  The Marvel universe is far too diverse with characters.  Using Loki constantly would make him into the Lex Luthor of Marvel.

Wiseguy 6/17/2013 9:53:42 AM

If it's Thanos, which I maintain will be saved for A3, then Loki almost has to play a part by default. Won't Thanos want to skin him for failing so bad in Avengers. He caused destruction in Thanos' realm and didn't bring back the cosmic cube either to boot

Good decision; Hiddleston is great, and we can see Loki again somewhere down the line, but like the rest of you, I say it's time for a new baddie.  Too bad they're going to piss away Thanos by making him the villain in GotG.  By the time A2 comes out, I fear Thanos may be damaged goods.  I think setting up Ulron in the Ant Man movie may be a decent way to go.  Having an army of Ultron robots for the Hulk to tear apart in A2 allows for lots of violent destruction without any death, the mana for directors trying to walk the PG-13 landscape.

Totally agree with this move, and most of the previous posts.  Its the problem that the X-Men movies are doing with Magneto.  He has been in every movie so far.  Which leads to no new villians.  And there are so many great villians to be seen yet, in both the Avengers and the X-men.  I like the idea of setting up Ultron in Ant-Man movie.

Kaziklu 6/17/2013 10:44:38 AM

 ya I'm good with that.

Shogunn2517 6/17/2013 11:12:50 AM

Didn't I read somewhere that Thanos was going to be used in The Guardians of The Galaxy movie?

CalamityJohnson 6/17/2013 11:36:37 AM

Just not a fan of robots as bad guys. So little character development. Calculating and their message is boring. Matrix, Borg, Brainiac, Ultron, Phalanx... carbon copies of one another. I prefer the idea of the Master's of Evil... although they wouldn't name themselves that. Maybe, just the the Masters?

Not a fan of the supernatural/magic realm either and I'm hoping they steer clear of Master Pandemonium and Mephisto. I would say the Kree  or Skrulls would be an interesting choice, but obviously we've done the whole space alien thing.

I say leave Ultron and the introduction of the Vision for the Ant-Man movie. Destroying mindless robots is about as exciting as watching a legion of Dungans/Clonetroopers fight mindless legions of robots from outer space... oh wait...

A subversive corporate villain (would be awesome if it could be Norman Osborne... alas it cannot) who summons together a team of operatives who present themselves as heroes under the gov't supervision (think Dark Avengers) whose main goal is to usurp the US gov't and diminish the prestige of the Avengers. Maybe too much to ask for for the next Avengers flick, but might be a good venture for the future, with some introduction of the individual villains in some of the individual flicks. meh, just some thoughts...
