Lupita Nyong'o for Star Wars Episode VII?

She has had talks

No, it wasn’t because she just won an Academy Award, in fact The Hollywood Reporter is stating that these meetings happened prior. No doubt it was because of her role in 12 Years a Slave that she is being considered for Star Wars: Episode VII

“Add Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o to those meeting for the  part of the female lead in Star Wars: Episode VII. Sources say that Nyong'o met with J.J. Abrams only a few weeks ago, just before the Academy Awards where she took home the statuette for best supporting actress for her work in 12 Years a Slave”.

The role she read for is being kept a secret (big surprise). Though The Hollywood Reporter believes that she might be a descendent of Obi-Wan Kenobi, which is rumored to be a non-Caucasian role. This goes along with reports on who is competing for the lead role and that Adam Driver (Girls) maybe in the final stages of signing his contract.

Nothing is official until we hear from both Disney and Lucasfilm.

i think she'd make an excellent Asaj Ventress.  Hey, I  could dream can't I?

 I could see her playing Asajj Ventress if this was a Clone Wars movie.

She's the new flavor of the month in Hollywood. She not only won an Oscar but she's so nice and likeable I'm sure every movie producer is lining up to grab her. There will be another round of nerd outrage if she's cast as Obi-Wan's granddaughter or something.

Does she look fantastic in every photo? She's as stunning in that pic as just about any of her red carpet gown appearances. I'm sure at some point the paparazzi will catch her on camera in raggedy jeans, a stained t-shirt, blowing her nose or something. But she'll probably make that look good, too.

I want her to be Storm in a recast X-Men.

@monkeyfoot

I  was thinking the same thing about both the nerd outrage and how hot she looks in every photo.  I never thought about her as storm, but that would be a great casting choice.  She won't have the horrible accent Halle Berry faked for the first movie.  Was storm ever rockin a close cut in the comics?

She had the Mohawk for a while.  Actually, now that I think about it, she had her head shaved in the 90's when dealing with Genosha.

 JJ Abrams and the Disney execs were probably hoping that she WOULDN'T win the Oscar... Her fee probably went up about 10 times, at least.

 Storm has been bald briefly, and she's had the mohawk, has it now actually, but never close cut.  Of course wigs aren't uncommon in Hollywood

I doubt they would have her as a granddaughter of Obi-Wan. Maybe a grand-niece or something like that.

SarcasticCaveman 3/18/2014 5:24:23 AM

 I have absolutely no issue with her being cast as a relative of Obi Wan, but just no direct line, such as grand daughter or what have you...not because of race, but because the Jedi code forbade Jedis from marriage and children and what not, and I always got the distinct impression that Obi Wan took his vows quite seriously...or at least a whole lot more so than Anikan did...maybe that's wrong also...I guess Obi Wan had much better discipline than Anikan.  The only almost romance mentioned that Obi Wan almost had was with that Mandalorian chick on "The Clone Wars", and even then, it was long after it happened and there was no child in the mix.
