M. Night and Sam Hoping for UNBREAKABLE 2

Something that flew right by the radars of a lot of us during this slow news week was just thrown into my inbox by fellow Maniac Joeybaloney. Apparently, director M. Night Shyamalan and leading star Samuel L. Jackson are still interested in returning to their Unbreakable story that we last saw on the big screen in 2000. The two had a chance to talk about what was planned as a trilogy at that time to MTV and here's what they had to say on it.

“I tell you I get asked about it all the time, so it’s not [an idea] I ever forget,” Shyamalan told MTV News. “I genuinely just asked this question the other day — should I make ‘Unbreakable 2’?”

If Shyamalan does indeed decide to revisit “Unbreakable,” he’ll have at least one of the original film’s stars ready and willing to join up — Samuel L. Jackson, who played the very-breakable villain, Elijah Price, in the movie.

“Every time I see [Shyamalan], he says, ‘I’ve written this thing for you,’ so I say, ‘why are you always doing these movies I’m not in?’” said Jackson.

According to both Shyamalan and Jackson, “Unbreakable” was originally intended to be a trilogy, but a series of bad reviews as well as fan and film critic misconception of Shyamalan’s work quickly tabled the idea of a possible franchise. As Jackson put it, “He was a victim of what Quentin [Tarrantino] was a victim of. ‘Jackie Brown’ is a great movie, but it’s not ‘Pulp Fiction 2.’ ‘Unbreakable’ is a great movie, but it’s not ‘I see f**king dead people.’”

Likewise, Shyamalan has his own take on the lack of a sequel. “I made the mistake of getting caught up in the hype of the immediate reaction of the movie, which, experience has shown me, is not accurate to any of my movies,” he explained. “And If I had been more confident and said ‘I believe in that movie, I love that movie, and I should just go start writing the second one,” that would’ve been the right move. I’ve still been thinking about it a lot and wonder if it’s too late.”

What do you readers think? Think a little more story for the Elijah Price character is worth a "go" from M. Night and Sam?

Is SLJ broke or is he just trying to be the most prolific actor in the history of cinema? Damn kid, stand aside and let other actors get some work. This guy wants to be in abosolutely everything. I guess he wants to pass the great Gene Hackman, except I didn't read about Hackman begging for work or to be in a movie all the time. Or complaining about rappers getting acting gigs.

Still, I'd LOVE to see him return, and Willis as well obviously since his whole thing was that they were each other's opposites and nemesis. Shymalallalalalalyan's only film that deserves a sequel and his second best.

There ya go M night...you have had bomb after bomb so go back to the movie that had modest success that could have been great.

You fucked up the ending of this movie too and I'm not talk about the "surprise." A hero does not kill, basic rule of comic books but I could have bought that happening if you say, had Willis not realize his strength and accidently knock the bad guys guys head off or something. Plus speaking of the super strength. You spend the whole freaking movie building up how strong Willis is then when he fights the bad guy you have him head lock him to death. WTF??!!??? I can't get past that...this movie could have been a classic but will always come up short.

The train for Unbreakable 2 left the station a loooooooooooong time ago.

M.Night needs to try directing a couple of films that he doesn't write and his movies need to stop being marketed as M.Night movies so people can forget all the crap he's done lately.

I can't go for Unbreakable as M.Night's second best. I'd take Signs over Unbreakable any day of the week.

Hobbs. obviously you don't read the X books, mainly but not limited to Wolverine and X-Force. Plenty of killings.

hanso, today is Wednesday, any day of the week only happens every ten years
Come on Signs ? Signs? An obviously advance race of aliens wants to colonize a planet that's two thirds water and water is their achilles heel. And they send one alien to Brazil and two to Pennsylvania as scouts.

I agree that the time is past for a sequel. Are we doing 60 year old super heroes now? At the time I would have loved a sequel, because it would have taken M. Night out of the suprise ending phase early on. And I thought it was an interesting premise for a super hero. Downtrodden everyman security guard has a superpower. He's not an ace reporter or flashy photographer or cop or PI or a rich dude or a bad ass. His life kind of sucks.

I do like M. Night though. I loved Lady in the Water and I really enjoyed the plant movie (can't think of the name). Basically, I always enjoy his movies.

LOL.
I'm sorry I'll take retarded aliens over a guy whose villain alias is Mr.Glass and has a nasty fro. Plus Willis running around with his superhero custom being a rain coat doesn't do it for me.

The whole comic book backround and Willis turning out to be the Hero and Jackson the Arch Enemy was a great twist. It was a superhero movie but with a weird turn. You didn't know that going into that movie which was cool.

Id love to see a part 2 and i hope it gets made and willis is up for it.

DEFINATELY BRING IT !
