John Madden is in negotiations to helm the Nazi-hunter thriller The Debt for Miramax, says the Hollywood Reporter. Madden will be working alongside producer Matthew Vaughn (Stardust, Thor) and writer Jane Goldman (Stardust) in adapting the remake of the Israeli thriller, which was originally titled HaHov.  Vaughn will produce the project with Marv Films partner Kris Thykier.

The feature would mark Madden's first jump from the Weinstein-run Miramax to its new Daniel Battsek-led regime. Most of his directorial efforts have been Miramax projects, including "Shakespeare in Love," "Ethan Frome," "Mrs. Brown" and "Proof." His most recent film was the Weinstein Co./MGM thriller "Killshot," filmed in 2005 and still awaiting release.

Plot Concept: Assaf Bernstein's "HaHov" follows a trio of 1960s Israeli intelligence agents who pursue a Nazi war criminal only to have him escape. More than 30 years later, their target re-emerges, forcing one of the agents to track him down and preserve their decades-old cover-up. As with the original, the remake is expected to feature two actresses playing the female protagonist in the '60s and '90s.
