Pop singer Madonna will provide the voice of Princess Selenia in ARTHUR, an animated film being developed by French director Luc Besson. Besson wrote the screenplay for his next film based on his own series of children's books, and now he's turning his stories into an $80 million dollar CGI film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a deal is close to being finalized with a male actor for another role, to be announced shortly.
Besson's movie will focus on a ten-year-old boy named Arthur who hatches an idea to save his grandfather's home from ruthless developers. Arthur hears of a group of tiny people called the Minimoys that live in cooperation with nature, and who apparently know where a stash of hidden treaure is that can be used to pay off Arthur's grandfather's house and keep it safe from demolition. Madonna's character will journey with Arthur to a strange city where a evil being lives.
The CGI film, scheduled for release sometime in 2006, will also have short live-action sequences in it. Besson reportedly also has a live-action project which mirrors his ARTHUR film but the director is keeping a tight lid on the details of it. Hey, we didn't know he wrote books for kids until today.
