What They Say
Trouble usually comes in threes, and Tachibana Tsukasa's just received his full share! Not only is he about to take his final graduation exams for the third time, but he's also being plagued by horrible nightmares of his own impending death and three apprentice witches have just shown up on his doorstep, all determined to pass their own final exams... and Tsukasa's the test subject!

Witch number one is Chipple, a sweet and charming student of the White Magic School, whose deceptively simple sounding task is to make Tsukasa like her, something that's actually not so easy when she has to share her test subject with Irene, a sultry siren who only passed the written part of her final exam with an unauthorized oral examination, and who's convinced that the way to Tsukasa's heart is through a quick course in the perils of the flesh... whether he wants it or not!

Worst of all is Liv, the apprentice from the Black Magic School, whose final assignment is not just murdering Tsukasa, but also to make him really suffer first! Between Irene tying him up, Liv trying to slash his throat and Chipple running damage control, Tsukasa's life becomes a living hell, and not even his incredibly cool friend Tatsuhiko can help him study for this exam!

The roof of Tsukasa's house isn't the only thing likely to get blown as Mortals and Magic Users come together in a cataclysmically chaotic climax of uncontrollable conjuring and cohabition; after all, with full-witchhood at stake, there's not much these magic using minxes won't do to earn an A, even if making the grade does mean laying the unfortunate test subject.... out cold!

The Review!
SoftCel goes back into their catalog for one of their softer titles, but also one of the more comical ones.

For our primary viewing session, we listened to this show in its original language of Japanese. Japanese is also the only language available here as this show was never dubbed. The dialogue track is nice and clean and we noted no dropouts or distortion during playback.

Originally released back in 1995, Magical Twilight has a decent looking transfer if a bit soft in places. It looks like a hentai OVA that had a decent budget behind it, as it was done back when AIC was more closely linked with Pink Pineapple, so you have a lot of the similar designs and audio work associated with it. Colors look good, though the palette is definitely in the purple hue, and theres very little cross coloration or aliasing in general.

The front cover highlights most of the main cast of the show with Chipple being in the center. The back cover provides more character shots and the hints of what kind of smutty fun may be inside. Theres a decent summary of the shows premise and a basic listing of production credits and technical information. The insert provides a nice scantily clad vision of Chipple with the discs chapter listings while the reverse side has a great shot of most of the cast in their mature mode, a piece of art I think would have better suited the cover instead of the insert.

The main menu uses some of the nicer more mature looking artwork for a static image of several of the girls and the male lead while a piece of instrumental music plays along with it. Episode selections are available right from the main screen, though you can get more direct with the scene selection submenu. With no language screens and the extras available right from the top level, access times are nice and fast and navigation is minimal overall.

The only extra here is a nice 3 minute long production portfolio video, which unfortunately runs with no accompanying music or sound, causing it to feel a little dull just from that. Its got a mix of production artwork, conceptual pieces and full color cel artwork.

Magical Twilight is one of those fun titles that deals with good natured sexual escapades. Of witches! But these arent your ordinary witches. Were introduced to two of them from the White Magic world, two girls who are going through their final exams to become fully certified as witches. Theres Irene, the go-getter who will do anyone so she can avoid doing the actual classwork and theres Chipple, the do-gooder who tries her hardest but just cant seem to master things.

The two always seem to end up in situations with each other, but Chipple absolutely detests Irene and tries to avoid her as much as possible. Having both failed their written exam, theyre each given another chance to pass by passing the practical exam. That exam is a bit more involved, and has the girls going to Earth and trying to earn the love/praise/affection of a particular young man. This young man just happens to be Tsukasa, a young man living on his own while trying to get into college and getting on with his life. All of a sudden, he finds himself with two attractive but very different women living with him.

Chipple earnestly and honestly tries to please him and to win him over while Irene essentially doesnt do much but to get into troublesome situations. Their situation gets more complicated though with the arrival of a witch from the Black Magic World whose assigned practical exam is to actually kill Tsukasa. With an underpowered but in love Chipple, a very confused Tuskasa and a non-caring Irene, the three end up working together to face the threat.

Magical Twilight is a very lighthearted show thats as softcore as they come. Theres nothing really hardcore in here, but it doesnt matter much as theres enough of a decent amusing plot to go with it that the sex scenes often feel tacked on. Well, some of them at least. While its definitely more than you get with say, daytime television, its not what you get with a lot of todays hentai releases with their interior-cams. A lot of the sequences are fairly quick too, as the show would rather spend its time having fun with the characters.

Magical Twilight is a light hearted magical sex comedy thats great for first time hentai viewers and those wanting to move slowly into the genre, as well as great for couples and those looking for something a bit easier to get into. If going headlong into pure porn isnt for you, then this is a great way to start out.
