Maguire and Raimi Signed for SPIDER-MAN 4?

It looks like Sony's decision to take a mini-break and not jump immediately back into pre-production for Spider-Man 4 right after the third installment has paid off. Deadline Hollywood Daily is reporting that leading star Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi have signed on to return in the fourth installment of the franchise. For Sony's part, they have frequently denied rreports these past few months that a new director and new cast was being introduced, despite the many rumors appearing around the internet this summer.

The site reports the star and director have signed on the dotted line but there is no word yet if Kirsten Dunst is signed yet. That doesn't mean she's getting recast as the character of Mary Jane Watson is expected to appear and the studio has said they will not recast her.

Screenwriter James Vanderbilt is writing the script, with plans to shoot Spider-Man 4 and 5 back-to-back but the studio is hesitant on that strategy.

"The studio is trying to figure out if it can feasibly shoot Spider-Man 4 and 5 at the same time because doing that is so cost effective and 'it wasn't so easy to get everybody back together.'"

Who's playing the villain? That part isn't sure yet but the site says that principal photography doesn't start until the fall of 2009, we will find out who the villain we'll know who is playing it. That indicates a previous casted part in the first three installments leading a lot of us to believe the role of Dr. Connors aka a possible Lizard.

When the studios confirm DHD's report, we'll update this.

Spider-Man 4 is expected to hit theaters May 2011.

I really hope it is the Lizard. They been hinting at the character since part 1. Another possibility is Man-Wolf according to the article. Either way it's a win-win situation. Both of those characters would be hugely entertaining to watch on the big screen.

I was hoping for a complete recast but I can live with the original cast coming back for the next 2. And I'm really hoping Raimi puts out a better film this time around. They've gotten progressively worse as the series went on.

"Screenwriter James Vanderbilt is writing the script". For second I thought it said "James Vanderbeek" and I though WTF Dawson is writing the script. Please either recast or kill off Kristen "old lady face" Dunst! She was miscast, everbody knows but no one will admit it! Another thing will somebody finally add in Spider-man's witty reparte'. 3 F***ing movies and no witty reparte! WTF? Also the very end of part 3 felt tacked on to me. There's a ton of other stuff, but no one cares anyway!

Must have Kraven the Hunter and Vermin as the bad guys. Take the story directly from the comics where Kraven catches Spiderman and takes his place. I love that story arc...

This is probably a fake rumor, but if not...

REBOOT! REBOOT! REBOOT!

Do not go back to the Toby well. Start over. The Raime/Toby saga was historical and parts of it were great, but hear me now SONY... "SONY, do not continue the shit that flowed from S3's ending."

OK SONY, we here at mania will help you out once again. Here it goes... (good call on witty reparte Notafan)

1. Reboot a new trilogy to start with Parker in his first year as Spidey. Release it in summer 2011.
2. Parker is third year college student, and blowing his prof's minds. MJ has her first big gig modeling in a mag. Parker finally gets the courage to ask her out...
3. Go dark. Lots of rainy night scenes, spidey making a few mistakes in crimefighting.
4. have a big crime spree flowing from a big-ass crime boss of the Kingpin sort. Spidey starts f-ing up the crime spree, so crimeboss hires Kraven (good call halo). epic Spidey and Kraven battles. DARK>>>
5. meanwhile, Big crime boss is under investigation from shield because crimeboss is developing new Adamantium tech for the Latest weapon X/Doc Oc project/symbiote.
6. Peter finally handles Kraven and his hunter thugs, and things culminate in a meeting of Peter, Crimeboss, and Shield. Pete exposes all dirty shit.
7. But Nick Fury shows up with MJ as kidnapped colateral. Fury is interested in Peter's powers. A truce is struck.
8. film ends with Pete an MJ getting closer, Fury getting curious, and a setup for a venom carnage sequel...the real one we should have seen...DARK SHIT.

Casting> Peter:Gosling, MJ:Leighton from gossip girl, Fury: S.L. Jackson,
Crimeboss: Frank Langella, Updated Kraven: Gerard Butler, New Venom: some big badass... get serious and go dark

damn i'm good. hire me you clones

OK, for all who did not catch this the first time...I say Lizard and Kraven for SM4. The Vicious Lizard is hunting the sewers of NYC and Spidey cannot seem to defeat him. The Media, JJJ, brings in Kraven the Hunter, a ruthless animal hunter from Africa to hunt the Lizard down. Kraven's focus turns to Spider-Man after he and Spidey stop the Lizard. He realizes Spider-Man is the ultimate prey and sets out to hunt him down as well. Non stop action, no kiddie stuff, and a smart exciting story.

Get it together filmmakers...SM3 was almost unbearable and was a low point in the series.

...and recast Dunst please (or everybody for that matter) and Gerard Butler as Kraven. (who said it first over a year ago??) Perfect.

Maybe Rami & Tobey are coming back because they know #3 sucked fat hairy spider ballz. Whatever the reason they had better bring it otherwise they're just wasting out time. I'm not totally opposed to a reboot but Sam & T deserve another shot based on 2 excellent movies.

ABSOLUTELY get rid of Dunst she's putrid. Butler as Kraven is spot-on.

Now this is just my idea, but I think it would be interesting if Bruce Campbell were to return as the viallain Mysterio. They could use his acclamation as a villain to show how hes been hiding in the background and keeping tabes on Peter's life for some reason, like maybe the guy who killed uncle ben and then died was his brother or something. They could also use Mysterio as a way of bringing back old villains in that their death was an illusion and they never really died then you could get the Sinester Six.

Also I agree with supercollector, recast Dunst, she is a horrible MJ, bring a real twist and kill her off instead of Gwyn and then bring in Gwyn as the love interest.

So When The Joker asked "What Happend? Did your Balls Fall off?" He was talking to Sam Rami about making better movies than SpiderPig and not going back and doing the ultimate Evil Dead film?

Spider Pig SpiderPig
Nicholas Hammond was better as Spider Pig
Shera Maguire really sucks
The Malaysian Transexual hair is lame enough.
Oh no Here again come Spider Pig

NO REBOOT!NO REBOOT!NO REBOOT!NO REBOOT!NO REBOOT!NO REBOOT!NO REBOOT!
NO REBOOT!NO REBOOT!NO REBOOT!NO REBOOT!NO REBOOT!NO REBOOT!NO REBOOT!NO REBOOT!NO REBOOT!
NO REBOOT!NO REBOOT!NO REBOOT!NO REBOOT!NO REBOOT!NO REBOOT!NO REBOOT!NO REBOOT!

the call for Re-booting is out of control. The first 2 were awesome, the third not so much, but that doesn't call for a re-boot.
I am STOKED that Raimi, and Maguire will be back, this is good news indeed.
