What They Say
"Mahoromatic" is a sci-fi romantic comedy anime from Gainax ("Evangelion"). Contains episodes 1 & 2.

The Review!
Mahoromatic. Gainax takes on the "maid" anime, and delivers what they do best... Fan service.

Mahoromatic's story revolves around a middle school student by the Name of Suguru, and a maid he hires to do house work after his parents die.
Mahoro is a Android who took part in a secret war to stem the tide of an alien invasion, and after quite a while of loyal service she is givin the choice to leave the military(I can't find a more acurate term) and have only 1 year 'til deactivation(at reduced power)... Or remain and only have 3 months at most.

Mahoro choses to leave the army and instead of a life of peace and relaxation she chooses to become a maid. She is dispatched to Suguru.. and you can watch the show to figure out the rest :) One thing I will tell you is that GAINAX does not skimp on the fanservice... They find a reason for people to take of there clothes in 5 out of the first 6 episodes.

Now on the the technical details. The show is presented in 16:9 and the DVD transfer is what you would expect from a show this recent. There are no problems at all with the picture. The opening consists of many scenes where large areas of primary colors are uses and there is no macroblocking.
The sound on the DVD is a Dolby Digital 2 channel mix. Like most anime is it primaraly center based with good directionality for the music and a fair amount for effects.

The DVD has very simple menus with a picture of Mahoro and only 3 selections. Play, Chapter and OP w/out credits. But, the nice thing about this DVD is if you got the first pressing like I did, you get a spiffy box to put the rest of the DVDs in with some great cast shots on it.

All and All,I love this DVD and you would have to rip it from my cold dead hands to get it away from me. I have high hope for this series, and I would highly recommend it to GAINAX fans. Now, you must excuse me I have to go preorder the remaining 5 DVDs.....
