Major FRIGHT NIGHT Remake Changes

By: Jarrod Sarafin, News Editor

Of course, I mean more changes than what we expect out of the normal remake concept. If you read our story earlier today of the Friday the 13th remake possibly being reimagined to include a full sized Jason Voorhees instead of his mother, Pamela, you will see what kind of changes I'm referring to here. Word is coming from Ryan Rotten that the FRIGHT NIGHT remake will likely be very different then the 1985 original film from director Tom Holland. Screen Gems seems to be going in a different direction at this point with executive producer Scott Strauss wanting to change the new setting of the film to an amusement park in some way..

This begs the question on whether this should even be called a "remake" of Fright Night? As Ryan says, it sounds more like Hooper's Funhouse now..

First they're re-doing Near Dark and now this? WTF!!??? I'd give my left nutt for somebody in Hollywood to step up and bring us something totally fresh and new. Instead we get re-imaging remade horse-shit. 99.9% of the time these re-treads suck ballz. Look at the remake of Halloween terrible idea. Didn't even need to be made. I don't know why I'm more pissed; because they re-made it or because I went and saw it!

I liked Fright Night. I'm into vampire movies. Yea it wasn't the best movie ever but with todays effects it can only benefit from a remake.
If they remade it well and did some changes, not drastic like it seems to be what they are doing, then it could work much better than the original. Could be better than Halloween at least.
Alas, I don't like calling it a remake if they are changing a bunch of stuff.
They should remake this and then part II with that vampire gang and the chick as the leader.

The film Disturbia is an out and out rip-off of Fright Night. The difference??? They changed the villain from a vampire, into a serial killer...they added the ankle bracelet part...they added the prologue about the father and son....and they got rid of the Horror Show Host...other than that...Disturbia is a remake, or should I say rip-off, of Fright Night...but not as good as the original movie. Just add some brief homages to Hitchcock's Rear Window...pour in a container and shake--blam, you've got Disturbia.

As far as this so-called latest and official Fright Night remake...why don't they just do a straight remake of the original film and then use their reimagining idea as a sequel to the remake...as opposed to doing a reimaging of the original movie. I for one, hate reimaginings...and thus I will not support this film if reimagined!!!

HMMMM not sure this is a remake...many consider DISTURBIA..a remake of REAR WINDOW..more than FRIGHT NIGHT...i think??? Anyway if you go that far from the original then not sure you can call it a remake..but hey..who am I..they own the rights...LOL

quite possibly the best thing about remakes are that we'll always have the original, plus it will draw in a whole new audience that perhaps had never seen the first one before.
Personally I'm against movies like Disturbia "ripping off" their plot form another movie and NOT giving any credit. i would rather have a remake..
but in the case of Fright Night, theoretically you could do part 3, I know Roddy died, so some recasting would have to happen, but it is not unheard of... look Creepshow III was just released (bad example I know but whatever) Did Fright Night II ever play in theaters? I remember watching it on Pay-per-view back in the day and being dissapointed that they didnt bring back Evil Ernie, since the first one closed with his eyes glowing red.
Hell, you can go buy Fright Night for $9.99 at Walmart... put it into your collection, thats what I did.

Fright Night is a classic 80s comedy-thriller. It has a great soundtrack, an attractive cast and some very fancy cinematography. The story was nothing special, a modern retelling of Dracula mixed with (as Batman777 suggested) a bit of Hitchcock.

There's no reason to remake this movie. It was great in the 80s. It will be straight-to-video nonsense now.

My guess is, someone owned the rights to Fright Night and bought a vampire script from some starving screenwriter. The producers changed the title and voila! Remake schlock.

I loved "Fright Night"...it's too bad they're going to butcher its memory.

After watching An Evening with Kevin Smith I really wonder about the thought processes of some producers.

Disturbia was very much like Rear Window.

Seriously, people, whenever metalwater decides to say "X" ripped off "Y" - just smile and nod, or say nothing. He believes what he says, you are NOT going to change his mind.

Let him speak his opinion on such things and move on.

As for "remaking" Fright Night - what, do they think the film has enough name recognition to overcome the number of Fright Night fans who won't see a redoing of the story? Sheesh, just write your own vampire story with your own title and in the commentary on the DVD let it be known that you were influenced by Fright Night.
