The Wrap has broken the story that John Malkovich (Warm Bodies, Red 2) will portray Blackbeard in NBC’s pirate series Crossbones. The series will “portray an 18th century pirate society more civilized than the British Empire”.

The Plot: The tale takes place on the island of New Providence in the Bahamas. This unique place of piracy, theft and outlaws is reigned by the fearsome pirate captain Edward Teach, known as Blackbeard. But a scheme has been designed to throw Blackboard from his throne. An assassin, Tom Lowe, is sent with the task to execute the pirate leader. However, as Lowe moves closer towards Blackbeard, he starts to admire his ideas and involvement in the rogue society. And of course, Lowe will not be Blackbeard's only enemy. - IMDB

Crossbones is currently slated for a 10 episode first season and based on Colin Woodard’s “The Republic of Pirates”.

No release date has been set for the series.

Malkovich as a pirate... Hmm. He can be such an overactor in some roles and I have a hard time picturing him as Blackbeard. We'll see!

Yes, this premise does sound likean interesting show but it doesn't sound like a major network type of show. The over-the-air networks don't usually spend alot of money for production value and this must cost a small fortune. Unlike HBO If it doesn't bring immediate big ratings they are liable to cancel it immediately.

NBC...yuck. Would rather see this on Starz or HBO

You have trtouble seeing someone who overacts portaying a man who used to often make an entire crew surrender just by stepping foot on board their ship?

A man who wore two swords and six pistols and tied lit cannon fuses into his hair?

REALLY?

I am looking forward to the more R-rated version from  the Treasure Island prequel, but this could be fun in it's own way...

NBC = it will suck like a dyson; A&E, HBO, but not NBC

If the show is any good...NBC will cancel it after 3 episodes :/
