Mania Box Office Report: AMAZING Spider-Man 2

Back in the Swing?

Amazing 2 a failure?

What a weekend! We had Free Comic Book Day, Star Wars Day, and the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man. The reviews have been mixed. What I overheard, via Free Comic Book Day, is that people didn’t like the wise cracking Spider-Man. These were people in line for comics, who look like the frequent comic book stores, complaining about Spidey’s wise cracks. Perhaps they read Batman?

Despite The Amazing Spider-Man 2 grossing 92 million dollars this weekend, it is being considered a failure. Ray Subers of Box Office Mojo had this to report: “Compared to other outings in the Spider-Man series, though, this is a disappointing debut. It's tough to compare this to the first Amazing Spider-Man, which opened on a Tuesday ahead of the Fourth of July weekend. The best comparable titles are the first and third movie in Sam Raimi’s original trilogy, which also debuted on the first weekend of May. Those opened to $114.8 million and $151.1 million, respectively, with much lower average ticket prices and no 3D premiums.

The second weekend in May is never a big summer tent pole movie. It is always an alternative choice to the previous week’s release. So who is up for Neighbors? The Tom Hiddleston vampire film, Only Lovers Left Alive, is making the art house rounds right now. I’d rather seek that out over Seth Rogen playing a grown up. When they hell did that happen?

Went to see ASM2 tonight.  Did not like it, was way too long with little action, which seemed all pushed to the end of the movie.

C'mon Disney, time to buy Spidey.

I'm in no rush to see Spiderman. Even my 14 yr old is prefering to wait for cable. He wants to see Gaurdians of the Galaxy tho.

Wish they could get all the marvel titles back in the marvel house.

I might have to check out this vampire flick.  Bowtie Cinemas downtown has a totaly separate little two screen house that only does indie/art house films.  I'm sure it'll be there, if not in the main building..

If Lindsey Lohan would not have gone of the rails, she would have made a great Mary Jane.

It's better than first.  I even was ok with electro foxx.  They still did not say the line which pisses me off.  A friend thinks they will use it to finish the trilogy off.  Chonicle Goblin was ok but I agree it's redundant since done in real first movie.  They developed Gwen and Peter love story pretty well.  They resolved the parents storyline finally which they should have done in the first.  It's actually pretty good in 3d for the swinging and fighting and saving people.  It's worth watching in theaters.  What are you going to watch The other woman?  I did see that which was just ok.  No nude scenes for Kate Upton however, she was very plump in this movie btw.  Very different than what I see of her on TMZ and Sports I.

I saw The Grand Budapest Hotel this weekend. Very funny movie, very entertaining.

I went to see Brick Mansions.  Lots of handsome and VERY athletic guys, nice action.  It was fun.  A nice, lightweight little action film to enjoy with popcorn and lemonade.  Enjoyable.

I really have no desire to see the Spiderman film.  It was too soon to reboot it after the Toby Mcguire version.

People didn't like the wisecracking Spiderman? WTF?

Probaly the same Bale/Nolan Batman worshippers who prefer their hero having a dumbass voice.

Saw The Amazing Spiderman 2 this weekend, and really enjoyed it, I  don't get why its getting all the hate from some online, although despite what some are saying plenty of people enjoyed the movie, its currently sitting at around 60,000 viewer votes in imdb and has a rating of 7.6, so yeah despite what message board trolls are saying a lot of people enjoyed the film.  After the way the second ended I  am eagerly anticipating the third and they are assembling the Sinister Six a few pieces at a time.

That is one thing I  will say I  love about these movie that the Raimi films did not do was try and build up the universe of Spiderman more and keep the villains around (I mean seriously all the villains in the Raimi films got killed off with the exception of the Sandman in Spiderman 3) in these news films they have already introduced four villains and for all intensive purposes all of them are still alive (the one villain who you think died in the new Spiderman could easily return).   Then they also teased at other villains appearing next like Doc Oc, and The Vulture.

I  am now eagerly awaiting the third film which should come out in 2016.
