APES. STRONG. TOGETHER. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes had enough bananas to take down the Transformers: Age of Extinction. Personally, I think it was great to have a Sci-Fi big budget blockbuster pic actually be about something. The story told here was nothing new, but great Sci-Fi is all about the morality play. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes delivered its message and was entertaining too. So, when does the next one come out? Check out Mania’s Review HERE

Ray Subers of Box Office Mojo had this to report on the weekend: “Debuting at 3,967 theaters, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes earned an estimated $73 million this weekend. That's a 33 percent improvement over the last movie's $54.8 million opening, and is also noticeably higher than last Summer's World War Z ($66.4 million). Of course, it's way off from the $90-million level that some other Summer movies have reached, though the Apes brand is obviously not as popular as Transformers, Spider-Manor X-Men.

The movie's strong debut can be attributed to a few factors. First, 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apeswas well-received by moviegoers, and has connected with many more during its post-theatrical run. That movie ended in such a way that viewers were actually excited about what may happen next, and the sequel appeared to push the story forward in an intriguing direction”.

Took the kids to see Transformers. It is what it is.

They loved it, that's all that matters I guess.

Apes was beyond excellent. It was extra excellent! I'm also glad that a hard sci-fi story is doing this well.

This was a fantastic movie.  Totally three me off from the trailers which was a pleasant surprise.  Glad this did so well and hope the next one comes soon.  A million times better than Transformers.

Saw Snowpiercer over the weekend. Awesome flick. So sad that it didn't get a better release.

Snowpiercer is the best truly sci-fi movie of the summer.
