Alright, now that I'm finally off the phone I can type some more. Here we go:

@XeroWarp, yes 'shoulda, coulda, woulda", you are correct. What I was trying to get at was WB had plans for Justice League movie without setting up the franchises and had they kept going then their movie would've beaten Avengers to the theatres. Obviously that didn't happen but they could still put their original plans in motion if they ever thought so and still deliver a JL movie.

@Obsidian, good points and I honestly hadn't given much thought. But there was already a JL Mortal script like Wise mentioned, to be directed by George Miller so it looks like that guy was crazy enough to try it. There might be others.

@Wise, I was cool with the script too. I was against the rumored casting though, and the director. The writer strike probably hurt JL: Mortal too along with the filming location.

On TDKR's numbers, they don't really matter.  It could make $1 or $1 billion, the trilogy is done, box office numbers won't change what's next for Batman.  He's going away a few years and being rebooted.

Thanks for the info.  Checked it out and that's a very interesting list!  As I remember, I paid 50 cents to see Star Wars when it came out, matinee time.  Today's matinee price is $7.50, big difference!

“We’ve begged Chris [Nolan] to stay on board but he refuses. He feels that he can’t do anything more with the series after this third film. We don’t want to let Batman die though, we know there are tons of fans out there that will want more and that’s why we’re looking into a reboot,” says Barry Meyer, CEO of Warner Bros.

“We loved the work that Ryan did for us on Green Lantern and we feel that he’s the right man to lead the Batman franchise. He’s an extremely talented individual and we hope that fans will embrace him as the new Batman,” continued Meyer

I find it interesting that The Avengers was not released in as many theaters as Harry Potter and TDK were...just strikes me as odd. Maybe it strikes me as odd considering I went to a brand new theater in town that had their grand opening coincide with The Avengers (US) premiere.
