Watched Dark Shadows on Saturday ... it was kinda .... crap. Boring is the best word for it. And there was this weird werewolf sub plot that pops up of nowhere - you'll see what I mean. 1.5/5

It might not take Avatars top spot (who know though) but the 2 billion dollar mark cant be unrealistic if they have topped 1 billion already? And you would think it will take another $125 mil world wide over the week so it should be sitting in 4th spot by Sunday.

Not surprised here but you might want to be careful when you refer to Burton's films as "crap." This group is sensitive to it.

@ iceknight52...............I don't get the love for Burton, Dark Shadows was a trainwreck.  he needs to take a LONG vacation and draw up a new plan, same for Depp.  Same type movie, and same type character.  And vitieddie is right on the money, the movie was boring as hell.

wow, just killing it at the box office!  I'm happy for everyone involved, especially Joss Whedon since it means we will get a lot more of his brand of entertainment now and that is about the best thing that could come from this, and of course more Avengers films.....

Dark Shadows sucked, it was hard to watch, I'm a fan of Burton and Depp but this was just a bad idea with bad execution.  I hope for a lot better from both of them in whatever they do next. 

The question is not "will the Avengers movie bump one of these out", but "when the Avengers bumps one of these (if not ALL) of these". All I have to say is this day is a great victory for Marvel fans. Get ready for several more years of movies from these and more Marvel characters from Marvel Studios.

I'm glad I saved my money on the Dark Shadows movie. Apparently all of the humerous parts of the trailer were all this movie could muster. I hate when studios do that. I think we'll say the same for Battleship as well by the end of this week...that movie looks like garbage. I think they're just showing some of the Transformers footage that ended up on the cutting room floor actually.

Btw, Robert, that hornets nest was stirred up a long time ago. In all honesty, TDKR will not beat the Avengers due to a handful of reasons...

1. The movie comes during the Summer...most people (Joe Public) will be on vacation (beach, mountains, granny's farm, etc) and won't be thinking of sitting inside a movie theater for 2 plus hours.

2. Several kids will be away at camps... (I know mine will)

3. Several parents won't think this movie to be appropriate for younger kids. I posted a poll on my facebook and I received more "No's" than "Yes's" when asked if parents will take their kids to see this movie.

4. Most families will be low on funds. Due to those Summer vacations and most families getting ready to buy school supplies, not many will be thinking about spending an extra $75 to $100 for a night at the movies. Not to mention grocery bills going up during Summer break! (more on that in a bit)

5. Dollar theaters will be jam packed. The Avengers just might be in some dollar theaters by this date. If that's the case, I know where my family and I will be that following weekend! $10 for my family's tickets (@$1.99) compared to $50 or so (@ average of $10 a piece)....yeah....you do the math.

Marvel and Disney knew what they were doing when they announced the release date of May 4th...families were still getting their taxes back, some parents had just gotten paid at the end of the month (like me, plus a seasonal bonus check which equals going all out with Avengers 3D), Summer break isn't here yet...don't have to spend a fortune on the grocery bill just yet!

Great job, Marvel! I hope this does, however, result in WB/DC taking a hard look at how it's done... *cough* Source material *cough* We all know what's after The Avengers for Marvel. Now the question becomes...What's after The Dark Knight Rises for DC?
