@inner

MIB III cost _at least_ 225 mill to make that Sony is willing to admit to. Rumors say that the delay in the middle of shooting (you know, when they figured out suddenly they didn't even have a final act) pushed the numbers up toward 300 mill and with Will Smith at least (and I think some of the producers) getting percentages of the film it really, really was going to have to go big in order to make money for Sony.

I saw Abe this weekend, and I thought it was pretty cool! It's entertainment...that's it.

TDKR is going to be a bit of a dissapointment for most, because Avengers has rasied the bar on what an action superhero movie should be about...even though Bats was always a serious subject matter, the average movie goer isn't going to think about that...because most of them saw Avengers first.

I think that Spiderman will do well just because of it following the Avengers this summer as another Marvel entity, the fact that Sony is distributing it is going to be irrelevant.

Prometheus for me, was designed to answer some questions and create a whole lot more..that's the reason why it's a bit nebulous. You can say it was dissapointing, but I don't think so....the action scenes where she gets stapled were a bit over the top though...

Because of this weeks Ted, Brave will probably still be the movie to beat this week...a raunchy Teddy Bear coming out after a Pixar Movie will not do well...I think most will stay in until the next big event: Spiderman.

@millean, I probrably see about 40-60 a year depending on the year. This year I've done 27 so far (thanks to my STUBS account) but that's including 4 Avengers. I live vicariously through film ;). Maybe that's why I'm mostly optimistic and pretty forgiving when critiquing films

ElBaz13 6/25/2012 7:35:52 AM

Holy shit Wise! You probably see more movies than some critics! I wish I could see as much but those days are over for me now. I see a maximum of 12-15 a year and it's mostly in the summer. I usually end up buying a movie on blu (when it's discounted) instead and watch it at home.

@silversurfer

Agree on TDKR. Avengers has set the bar and the interest level for Batman is not there. I think once Spidey comes out, it might suck the remaining interest of superheroes from the average ticket buyer and when Bats comes out, they will say "not another superhero". I still want to see TDKR but it's not an opening night movie for me and I'm only buying ticket since my kids and wife have no interest in it. Again, it's the Avengers that set the bar. There was a clip of TDKR prior to trailers prior to Brave yesterday and I asked my kids if they wanted to see Batman. My youngest replied "no, I want to see Avengers again, I want to see Hulk smash."  That's my girl. :)

 I had almost zero interest in Amazing Spiderman despite his being my favorite character, but the recent trailers have started to bring me around.  Hate that they rebooted it, though I have less issue with the changed cast.  All of these movies are going to have to be recast at some point due to age/money, but they could have just continued on with new actors.  I think the Lizard will be just fine as a villain.

I'm also in the "enjoyed Batman Begins and The Dark Knight but not feeling excited by The Dark Knight Rises trailers" camp.  I'll see it, but feeling strangely unexcited.

Of the movies on the list here... I've seen Avengers twice, enjoyed it both times, really wish it could pass at least one of Cameron's top two, but think it's going to run out of time.  Prometheus was a major disappointment (and it's fans who are busy patting themselves on the back for liking it while everyone else is just obviously stupid to get it are starting to get annoying).  That had been one of my most anticipated of the year.  Saw Brave, loved it.  I'd rate it as my second or third favorite Pixar film.

Kids dude, they don't lie...they know what they like, and it shows....

Is it safe to say that it won't be Bane who broke Batman's back this time, but the Avengers? Dark was cool, when he was the only one, but this version of Batman, while I do like it, isn't exactly "for the kids", the entire Avengers franchise has been family accessible and the characters have as well from the begining....plus, they got it right with the Hulk. WB's hand has been forced. They have to come out with a Justice League movie, just to keep up....

I think that they made Spiderman too cerebral this time...Rami's Spiderman worked for the same reason why Avengers works: it was a comic book movie that people could relate too.

I know that WB will be looking extremely close to see what Batman does, because The Man of Steel is next. If this one fails, then we're going to have get an entire reboot of all things WB as far as their flagpole heroes are concerned, and they're going to have to be forced to make them more accessible...even Batman.

 It's kinda neat that Avengers is going to break Titanic's orginal domestic theatre run this week. And may get close to it's re-release numbers that it picked up this year. I figure the movie might have 20-25 million left in it. Which will still be an amazing run.... it's really sad that Titanic was re-released when it was.

ElBaz13 6/25/2012 11:13:49 AM

There has been a rumour circulating on various sites that Disney/Marvel wants to re-release Avengers at the end of August and it would be a director's cut with up to 30-45 minutes of footage. One rumoured scene is Cap meeting Peggy Carter.

They want to do this to take a stab at Titanic's gross.

If a directors' cut theatrical release is announced. They have my ticket(s)!

 Saw Abe, liked with one major issue, film editing.  There was no flow at all to this film, and it so was built for one.  They said the original edit of Star Wars was a disaster, well they must have hired those people for this one.  All the scenes were there, most of the acting, but none of the flow.  Looked like 5 different editors spliced together 5 different sections of film they edited.
