Mania Box Office Report: Captain America 4 the WIN

Throws his mighty shield

Captain America: The Winter Soldier made $96 Million in its opening weekend. If you throw in the overseas box office, Captain America 2 has already surpassed its own budget at $194 million. The mighty Marvel Empire is doing just fine. So how does old Cap rank against his original film, Thor and Tony Stark’s sequel? Ray Subers of Box Office Mojo had this to report:

“Riding a wave of goodwill from 2012's The Avengers,The Winter Soldier's domestic debut is a 48 percent improvement over the first Captain America's opening. That's the biggest "Avengers bump" yet: Iron Man 3 was up 36 percent, while Thor: The Dark World improved 30 percent. Speaking of The Dark World: Captain America's debut is noticeably higher than that movie's $85.7 million.

Still, Captain America: The Winter Soldier couldn't quite match the original Iron Man, which opened to $98.6 million back in 2008 (before most moviegoers were even familiar with The Avengers)”.

I think we can lock down Captain America: The Winter Solider for next weekend’s big winner.

Saw the Cap movie today. I loved it. And the end credit scenes made me want to watch Avengers 2 right now!

I saw Grand Budapest Hotel last night.   I don't stand on line for any movie.  Cap will be good for Tuesday night viewing (in a nearly empty theatre) without the girlfriend.

I agree B-Czech.  I hate crowded theaters.  I mean it gives an electric feeling to be in the middle of a crowd cheering and laughing so loud that it makes the movie better somehow...yet I cannot stand being packed in like that.  I will wait a minimum two weeks to go see it.

Saw it this afternoon and with the exception of the crying baby in the audience, I loved this movie.  Way better than IM3.

I saw it this afternoon, great movie. Much better movie than IM3. Anthony Mackey and Chris Evans have better chemistry between the two of them than RDJ and Chedele. Falcon's flying scenes were amazing with a thrilling "seat of your pants" feel.

Definitely a game changer for the MCU going forward. And strikes a way different tone than the IM films. I find I didn't miss Tony/RDJ's snarky "I'm smarter than thou" bs which became irritating by the end of IM3.

Saw it opening night on IMAX. Yes, theatre was packed but it was packed with diehards. All fans here who love the MCU.

Also saw it again this evening.

What a great flick.

I hope to sneak out during work Monday to see it. I saw Divergent last week. I knew nothing about it and I was pleasently surprised. Before it ended, I had hopes there would be a sequel. I was glad to hear that there are three books in the series.

Saw it Saturday night in a packed theater. I still like that fun feeling for a big event movie with a packed audience.

It was excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was one of those times when it felt like they read my mind as to what I thought Cap2 should have in it. It had some lots of those elements and surpassed it. It was like a superpowered comic book Bourne  Identity/3 Days Of The Condor.

I am curious to see how it does overseas. I know the first one did not do well globally. But that was before the it hit DVD and before the Avengers came out. Also, it was smart to have Black Widow and Fury in the sequel. I think that should help the oversees numbers.

Cap2 opens with $303 million internationally this past weekend.  Nice chunk of coin for the first weekend!
