Mania Box Office Report: Disney Trumps MacFarlane

Maleficent over Cowboy Comedy

Is it really a fair fight between Disney’s live action version of Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent, and Seth MacFaralne’s Cowboy Comedy? They are from two different genres and have widely different markets. Maleficent, despite the whatever the reviews would be, would still bring out families to the multiplex. Disney's brand is one that indicates, it is safe for the whole family. Now the flood gates are open to bring other classic animated features to life. Kenneth Branagh’s Cinderella now looks like a sure fire thing.

Ray Suber’s of Box Office Mojo had this to report on the weekend: “Maleficent's success can be attributed in part to the enduring popularity of Disney's animated fare: Sleeping Beauty has tons of fans who were clearly excited to see a new take on the story. Maleficent isn't the last time that Disney is mining its animated library for live-action stories: they have Kenneth Branagh's Cinderella and Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book on the 2015 calendar.

It's also important to note that Maleficent was the first major Summer movie targeted toward women. At the risk of sounding redundant, women make up half of the population and half of moviegoers and will continue to reward movies with interesting lead female characters”.

Well I say if the ladies want to see a better movie than Maleficent then go see X-Men. That way you at least get to see Wolverine's naked ass.

I bet Maleficent was 200 mil plus for budget compared to a maybe 70 mil for Million ways.  I bet dollar for dollar Seth won.

With the blu-ray release in the fall coinciding with the re-release of Sleeping Beauty from the vault, that's a lot of money that will come in. Let's not forget merchandise and them park attractions.

Let's not forget worldwide gross. It did over 100 million over the weekend and guaranteed to crack the minimum 300 millium worldwide.

In the end, Disney still wins despite a 200 million budget.

I bet you're wrong Dazzler. Even dollar for dollar Jolie still won the weekend
