Mania Box Office Report: Full of Katniss

Goodbye Katniss

By Robert T. Trate     April 22, 2012
Source: Box Office Mojo

Finally the reign of The Hunger Games is over. Tim Story’s (director of the 2 Fantastic Four movies) romantic comedy, Think Like a Man took in nearly twice as much as The Hunger Games. After 5 weeks a new champion has been crowned. This is last big weekend before The Avengers arrive. It is a foregone conclusion that it will take the box office. What will be interesting to see this weekend is if patrons will venture out to see anything. Will it be Jason Statham’s action thriller Safe? Perhaps a dark ride with John Cusack as Edgar Allen Poe in The Raven? Or will Pirates! Band of Misfits, by the makers of Wallace and Gromit, bring out the kiddies? All three will only have one weekend to make their money. After that... the Avengers Assemble! Our money is Statham and Safe

Watched Lorax last weekend bec there was no other new release. It was ok ... 3/5.

I wonder if Avengers can beat the hunger games opening weekend - interesting times ahead.

Saw Cabin in the Woods at the wife's request.  Have to say it wasn't too bad.  COnsidering we had a 2 for 1 coupon th use.  I think I laughed more than got freaked.  I did dig the ending though.  Now a weekend off and then it Avengers Assemble!!

Wow looking at the top 10 its  hard to believe that a lot of people are going to the movies, I have not been in three weeks and probably won't go back until The Avengers comes out (HELL YES!), then after that I will probably be going about once a week as Summer Movie Season is upon us.

But Seriously here is how the top ten can be broken down for me:

1- Urban/Ghetto comedy that I have no desire to see (unless Meagan Good was nude or topless)

2- Another Nicholas Sparks chick flick based on another of his hundred books.

3- Over-hyped but decent, although pretty boring book to film adaptation.

4-Something that looks like I could watch it for free on National Geographic.

5-An awful comedy I would not even Redbox accept for the scene with Kate Upton in the Nun-kini

6-Meh I might watch this one eventually, but just because a friend wants to see it.

7-The film that allows a bunch of crappy raunchy movie actors to collect once last check from a franchise few care about anymore.

8-Titanic 3-D, meh if I did not pay to see Phantom Menace in 3-D, I am sure as hell not going to pay $12.00 to see this overly long chick flick in theaters.

9-Douche bag comedy, based on lame TV show, starring two actors (Hill and Tatum) that I cannot stand).

10-If I was wanting to watch the Snow White story, I would just wait until Snow White and The Huntsman come out later this Summer.

No surprices here! April was a month with no great movies to go to.  Thankfully May is opening strong!  Can't wait to see Avengers

I will see Cabin in the Woods this Monday. Wifey kept me from going earlier but f' it, I'll go alone. Cheaper that way anyway.

karas1 4/23/2012 7:54:21 AM

karas1 4/23/2012 9:45:01 AM

I watched Twister the other night.  That movie was designed for 3D with all the stuff being thrown at the camera.
