You did a good job on your own pice Bob and I agree with lots of it

The music and soundtrack, the marketing and Marvel's brand I think were the main ingredients that brought everybody out.

Include the tone of the film which made it feel family friendly but still has heart and emotional moments, brief as they may be, are enough for us to connect with these characters

Rare to see an original franchise leap out of the gate like this.

Only thing I could've done without was the first post credit scene. The second I was OK with since Knowhere is sort of like a crossroads of the universe so beings from anywhere can be there

Anyway Marvel is expanding the blockbuster season, first with Cap at the beginning and now with GOTG at the other end.

I loved GotG but I want to see Into The Storm next weekend.  I loved Twister and documentaries about weather.  I'm looking forward to all kinds of cool FX and I may spring for 3D to see it in all it's glory.

LOL karas, I'm surprised. I don't associate you with this sort of schlock. That movie looks just a rung above a syfy channel film. I may check it out but I have no shame :)

Btw I don't think it has a 3D version

Saw GOTG today and enjoyed it.  Both my kids liked it as well.  I'll be buying that one for sure.  I was dissapointed with the after credit thing they always do.  I smiled, but my kids had no clue.

Planning on seeing GOTG this week...... dang kid getting in the way of my opening Marvel weekends! !

Saw it today. I liked it, very entertaining. But nowhere near as good as Winter Soldier, in my humble opinion. I was dissapointed that there was no solid connection to the other Marvel movies, even if knew this coming in. Thanos vs Avengers still looks soooo far away. Patience is not my strong suit. My guess is Thor 3 and GotG 2 will really bring Thanos close to the Avengers 3 showdown.

I am Groot!

Translation: I loved it as well but I was also surprised it did this well. It was a comic and premise that is completely unknown to the general public and some comic fans (I don't read comics on a regular basis anymore so I knew little about them) and when the project was announced I figured it would do modestly well. The basic setup is almost exactly like either Firefly or Farscape. It's a jumbled motley crew of aliens who traipse around in a ship getting into gun shooting mischief. Firely did below expectation on its movie outing and Farscape barely finished its dangling plots in a mini-series. There was no reason to expect much more from this.

But as the promotional material started I kept hearing more and more positive stuff about it that seemed to get the ball rolling in a way I didn't expect. I came to the same conclusion Box Office Mojo did: the Marvel name has become a mark of excellence that people notice like Pixar.

And in conclusion: I am Groot!
