Mania Box Office Report: Prisoners Take Weekend

Insidious Chapter 2 Real Winner

By Robert T. Trate     September 23, 2013
Source: Box Office Mojo

Just in sheer numbers Insidious Chapter 2 is really the true winner. Only in its second week, the horror picture has made three times its budget. Insidious Chapter 2 trumps Prisoners in Hollywood’s eyes and Chapter 3 is surely on its way. Ray Subers of Box Office Mojo had this to report:

Coming off one of the best weekends ever in the month of September, horror sequel Insidious Chapter 2 plummeted 64 percent to an estimated $14.5 million. For the horror genre, that fall isn't terrible, though it still guarantees that Insidious Chapter 2 won't wind up anywhere near director James Wan's July hit The Conjuring ($136 million and counting). To date, Insidious Chapter 2 has earned $60.9 million, which is more than the first Insidious made in its entire run”.

This week it is all about Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 and Rush. The choice should be obvious.

Fun to see We're the Millers still doing great, one of the funiest movies of the year.

No surprised Riddick isn't doing as well.

Don't think Diesel produced Riddick for box office revenue This was for the fans and he was able to get this one produced thanks to his success with the Fast franchise.

The movie is already at 74 million worldwide on a 38 million budget. That's not counting DVD sales.

Lone Ranger. Now that's a flop and did not do well.

Saw The Family on Saturday.  It's being advertized as a funny comedy but it really isn't.  It's about a family of people who are willing to hurt others at the drop of a hat and seem to have no conciences at all.  What they do and what happens because they are there bring destruction on all the people around them.  It's an interesting film.

Insidious 2 had a budget of only 5 million?!?  Is that a typo or for real?
