No shock about Lone ranger.

still havent seen DM2, but plan on it.

STILL think that Pacific Rim will be a surprise hit. Tracking is off, but word of mouth will spread and strengthen its Box Office.

Westerns a dying (dead?) genre. The next western better have lots of sex, boobies and round bottoms! Oh and action. Or just do a Cowboys and Aliens sequel or rip-off.

I know a lot of fanboys are rooting for Pacific Rim, and I will say I am a big sci-fi action junkie as any, but my impression of PR from the trailers was: Transformers wannabe, and that it will fail to connect well with larger audiences. There will be many bored and want a new guy flick and this will be for them, and it will place second to Despicable Me 2, grossing about 40-50mil for the first weekend at best.

I finally saw Man of Steel. Aside from some plot holes and bad science, I loved this version and personally give it a 4.5 out of 5. It was fun and cool with a great story. I like how it played more like an epic sci-fi movie instead of a cheesy superhero flick. So, glad they dropped the obvious cliches - like Superman revealing himself by saving kittens from trees and stopping bank robbers, etc. Also, glad they told his orgin in flashbacks instead of making us sit through it for the first 45 minutes or so. And, to me, General Zod is by far one of the best villains to come out in a long, long time. I wanna go see it again and doing that is very rare for me because I can usually wait for the blu ray release, but not this time.

I think PR is gonna be a hit and knew the Lone Ranger would bomb because it's based on an old, outdated theme that no one really knows anything about. The same problem with John Carter. It's based on an old, old series of books that no one alive really remembers and back then it was rather obscure.

I hope I make sense. I'm heavily medicated because of a broken jaw and I'm not sure I can write a cohesive sentence right now... Lol!

I saw Lone Ranger on Sunday and I enjoyed it well enough.  Scorpion eating, killer bunny rabbits?  Hardcore!  LOL

I'm looking forward to Pacific Rim and also Red 2 which I think premiers also this weekend.

"Its After Earth, White House Down and Lone Ranger battling for flop of the year."

AE is out, that movie turned a $70 million profit so far.  It will be between WHD and LR and I believe that LR will be the top flop as it will struggle to hit $100 million resulting in a loss of $115 million.

True but if you count the marketing campaign and the fact that the studio doesnt get all the money from the box office, it hasnt turned a profit.  But u r right, Worldwide really saved AE from being a complete failure.  Lond Ranger just on its budget alone will probably end up as the biggest flop and I dont the rest of the world is interested in westerns to save it.

Lone Ranger was a flop, no doubt about it.  However, having said that it really wasn't a bad movie.  That is, PROVIDED that you know it is a comedy western aimed at a younger audience.  There were several kids in the theatre I was in and they loved it.

I was a bit disappointed it wasn't taken a bit more seriously (it had a touch of silly slapstick that I particularly didn't care for).  However, once I resigned myself to accepting that it was for the younger crowd, I was able to appreciate it for what it was.

Personally, I think Armie Hammer did a great job with what he had to work with.  I still think he could make a great Batman.  The character he played for Lone Ranger would not be anywhere close to what should be used for Bats, though.
