It is usually a foregone conclusion that the first big summer movie takes the first and second weekend. However, this year this wasn’t the case. Marc Webb’s follow up to the Amazing Spider-Man has fallen to the Zach Efron and Seth Rogan comedy Neighbors. If you look at the numbers alone, in ratio from budget to weekend take, Neighbors probably ensured itself a sequel.

Ray Subers of Box Office Mojo did have this to report: “In second place, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 fell 59 percent to an estimated $37.2 million. That drop isn't significantly worse than that of recent Marvel movies Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier (56 to 58 percent)”. So it isn’t all bad and there usually is a drop off. However, can anymore remember when the first summer movie in May did not take the second weekend?

The Amazing Spider-Man 2

The Other Woman

Heaven is for Real

Captain America: The Winter Solider

Rio 2

Mom’s Night Out

Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return

Brick Mansions

This weekend, it is all about the big green guy, Godzilla. Can Gareth Edwards deliver a big blockbuster and exceed expectations for this Kaiju icon?

Just saw Spidey for the second time this weekend.... Still loved it, maybe more this time.  Like I said not without its issues (all around the villains and pacing), but that is the Spidey I grew up with, it's the anti-Dark Knight and that's a good thing.  I had fun... Period.  And neighbours may have one but the box office in India will push ASM into the huge hit range guaranteeing this story continues.

WOW.. Spidey dropped off big time!!  And with Godzilla coming out this week, I dont see SPidey makin big money!! Very sad

Went to see "Neighbors" last night.  It was awful..................I do not knoe how Rob got a B out this movie.  Seth Rogan is simply the worst actor on the planet.  I can't believe ASM2 dropped that bad.

ASM2 is doing just fine. It's combined woldwide box office assures that. Every blockbuster doesn''t have to dominate the b.o. for a month straight to be successful.

One more week and Cap 2 will surpass $700 million world wide!  Now will it hit $750 million?

ASM2 won't even come close to ASM at the box office and will have the worst performance of all the Spidey movies for a reason; it sucked.  Sony can't dupe people with ASM3 or it'll be lucky to make back its production budget.  Sony has spent it's Spider-man capital; people aren't going to see ASM3 just because it's Spider-Man.  Sony is starting to approach Joel Schumacher territory!

Its funny you say that DarthBob. I just watched ASM2 this weekend and was telling someone at work that the villiains reminded me of the Joel Schumacher villians in Batman. Which was over the top and horrorable.

Goirish tells lies, all lies!  Neighbors is lol.  And two chicks make out man, that's gold right there.

Why do the 10's remind so much of 90's films in so far as creativity vs hype.

Sorry, but I hope they take this a sign that they're killing spiderman with too many movies.  I'm a big comic movie fan, but I couldn't believe how quickly spiderman was rebooted & i'm just bored with it.(amazing spiderman was the nail in that coffin)  Just give it time to rest guys, there's plenty of other cool comic material out there to exploit, why run this one into the ground?

I was really, really mad when they rebooted Spider Man (they should have stuck to that cast and story arc) - I never watched the first of the new series in the theater and won't watch this one in the theater. I know a lot of other people that feel the same way - it's the only message the studios actually listen to.
