Pacific Rim was a fun time at the movie, but I'm not sure it deserves a better box office than what it's getting.  If it did something different with script, characters and story rather than just a simple paint by the numbers job, then yes, it would deserve more.  Del Toro has done a lot better in the story/script department before, so I expected better.  It does look pretty though and it was fun.  Just wanted more.

Saw The Wolverine on Saturday in a pretty packed 2D showing.  Just don't really care for 3D.  And that is really what's starting to bug me at the theaters.  We went to a local theater that's a tad bit cheaper on the ticket prices.  Only selected auditoriums in the theater have stadium seating.  I was very shocked to walk into the movie and find it was on one of the old screens in one of the older auditoriums.  This was the second night of the release and it was already on the old ones?  Seems all the ones with stadium seating were taken up by the movies in 3D.  I definitely won't be going back to that theater for an opening weekend 2D flick again.  It wasn't too bad at first, but then mid-way through the previews some dick sat down in the row in front of me and blocked the lower quarter of the screen or so.  I'm not a short guy either, but this dude was taller.  I had lean and turn my head sideways to see the damned subtitles.

Anyway, on to the film itself.  It was okay.  Definitely better than Origins or X3, but not as good as it could have been.  I thought the villian here was way too weak.  Viper was just dumb and angle with the Silver Samuri was predictable and ended up failing.  I was surprised to hear so many gasp and the "WTFs" from the audience during the mid-credit scene especially when Spoiler Alert....

Patrick Stewart rolled up.  People seemed genuinely surprised to see him considering he was killed off in X3.  I was also surprised to hear people in the parking lot talking about how X-Men will cross into The Avengers and so on.  Guess the general movie-going audience really is clueless when it comes to this sort of thing.

Do you think DOFP will clear up any continuity issues from all the previous movies?

Cyclops being about 20 years younger then his "younger" brother Havok

Prof X walking & being Bald in "Orgins: Wolverine" but being crippled and a full head of hair in "First Class"

Why when Logan cuts his long hair, it doens't immeadiately grow back, like it does when it gets completly burned off? WTF

I saw Pacific Rim for the third time this past weekend (with my daughter this time) and yeah, it is completely awseome enough to see three times at the theatre! I just love this movie and cant get enough of it... The kids absolutely loved it too!

I'm really looking forward to the Blu-Ray release becasue I'm sure it'll have loads of extra stuff.

Looks like Despicable Me 2 will end up #2 for the summer domestically and worldwide, although it has a bit of work to do to catch Fast & Furious 6 worldwide.  I expected it to be big but not as big as it has turned out to be.

I thought The Wolverine was a very good movie. It didn't make it's money, but that's because the first Wolverine movie Sucked and like the Star Trek movies for awhile, a bad one scares off the auidence for the next one.

I saw Wolverine Saturday.  It was much better than origins.  In fact, if the Wolverine movies get that much better each time, Wolverin e 9 or 10 should actually be really good.

you beat me to it cinemaman

@ ElDogg42 - you stated it yourself.  You walked in thinking the worst.  The opposite is true.  People walked into X3 and Origins expecting to be blown away because of the success of X1 and X2.  Hence the large $$$.  Now with hopes and dreams dashed by X3 and Origins people just aren't up to seeing this.  Including me.  I find it difficult to get the motivation to see this.  I'm more apt to see RED 2 actually.

I think another thing people are missing is that comics come out every month and comic movies should also come out quicker also.  Comics don't blow their entire story acrc's in one issue they do it over time.  Comic movies have to blow it out of the water every time.  They really need to rework the comic book movie model to be lower budget and come out sooner, like once a year, like paranormal activity, saw, even twilight pretty much got one out every year.  They need actors they will comit to this and not branch out in different directions for other movie franchises.  The powers that be need to understand this better.  Comic movies should always be story driven and don't have to put 200 mil in cgi in every comic movie they do and hope they break even.  If the stories are good enough the blu ray sales will be there also with merch.

@dazzler: A movie every year would be awesome, but not realistic.  It takes almost a year to make a movie (including writing).  If you want to do one a year, you gonna have to cut the CGI, yes, but then you are also gonna have to cut the creative writing of it.  I think the best way, is to leave the Blockbusters the way they do it, Avengers, Cap, Thor etc. They seem to be working.  But if S.H.I.E.L.D. work on TV. I guarantee your gonna start see more and more of your street level heroes making it to TV.  WHich I am really hoping. As long as its not on FOX.  I don't to invest my time in a show, only to see it cancelled after one season.
