Chatting with the Magic Makers

By Robert T. Trate     August 29, 2012

Last week Mania's “The Geek Life” featured a trip to Industrial Light and Magic in San Francisco. This week Mania brings you another exclusive interview with two of the wizards at ILM.

Glen McIntosh, ILM Animation Supervisor and Willi Geiger, ILM CG Supervisor, sat down and chatted with Mania about working on Battleship. These two men, collectively, have worked on Battleship, Super 8, Revenge of the Sith, Transformers, Rango, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, a couple of Harry Potters
So sit back and enjoy a little discussion on recreating reality, a bit on Pirates of the Caribbean, and demolishing things on Battleship. Check out the previous interview with Grady Cofer and Pablo Helman (both VFX Supervisors at ILM as well) here.

I was skeptical about this film at first but it was actually a fun movie.

I still haven't seen it, but It's on my que.  Interesting interview though.  I've always loved Special effects.  Wish there would have been some examples shown while they talked, but great interview.

The special effects are really good for this movie, I will give them that....but man, this movie has cheesy written all over it.

At least the girl in it has some good assets going for her (not Rihana, the white girl).

But I mean come on.....guy with 2 metal legs? What a joke...

I watched it for the first time, and started with low expectations, and man was I surprised. The effects were insane in this movie. Really cool stuff.
