My wife is a Civil War buff and actually wants to see this one. I have the feeling she'll regret if after the first splatter of blood, but I'm not going to talk her out of it!

Okay, a 28% on RT means I'm definitely saving this for a guilty pleasure rental night.  I read if you are expecting historical moments and plot...forget it.  Movie was written by the actual author of the book. Now, if he can't get it right.  Wait, he wrote Dark Shadows?  Welll, maybe he should stick to books.  But, it seems Burton has found him a new muse.

Overall, outside of The Avengers, I've been very disapointed this summer with the movies.

Except Wyld that Lincon is a much closer to current historical figure and one still important in the ongoing story of what is currently the only super power left.  Sorry but this kind of butcher of history annoys me greatly.  Especially given the lack of real understanding of history in America things like this are even worse.

Saw this at midnight and really enjoyed the ride.  Did they change a lot of things from the book?  Yeah, but I felt it stood as its own enitity.  Historical accuracy?  Pfffht!  No way, but if you're going to a movie called Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter for an accurate historical account of the real-life President, you may want to rethink your priorities a little...;)

All in all, this film was just FUN.  The actors were likable in their roles, the action was stylish and brutal and the 3D was honestly really cool (and I usually hate 3D).  It feels like a lot of critic's complaints about this film are echoing complaints about Cowboys & Aliens last year, which I thought was good, too.  Like these films don't deserve to be done with a serious tone, they HAVE to be jokes or comedically-driven.  Are they high art or prestigious award-winners?  No, they're fun action movies with engaging characters that you should be able to cheer for as much as you laugh at.

Took my boys to watch this (they had read the book) and they liked it.  And also noted the changes from the book, some big changes; but they liked it.

It was good action and for me, being a big Abe fan, I wasn't caught up in any historical concerns..like Duckbeaver said above.  I was able to enjoy it as a vampire movie with Mr. Lincoln in it.  It was a good time with my boys on my 40th birthday.

I liked it too. Saw it Friday night. Not great but it is something different. I  liked the serious tone, the film could've easily gone goofy and probably would have had anyone else done it.

I wish they'd build up the vengeance aspect a bit more or the vampire threat. Neither seemed that great to me.

I'd see a sequel if they wanted to continue

Doesn't the guy playing Abe look like a young Liam Neeson?

RedHood2010 6/24/2012 1:24:31 PM

Yes, I would agree with that Wise.  He does look like Mr. Neeson.

Wiseguy 6/24/2012 1:50:29 PM

And btw a belated Happy Birthday to you Mr. RedHood

RedHood2010 6/24/2012 6:41:37 PM

Thanks Wise.  Appreciate it.

Would the sequel have to have Abe in it?
