I think for those who want to ban seeing this movie for the writers beliefs, try to remember it hurts the hundreds of people involved with the movie more than it does the author.  Movies mean employment.  You want to ban Card, then ban his books. Failure to sell books means less options for movies. But once it's been optioned and produced, then it falls to the hundreds of film makers.

Shac - not sure where the racist issue came from, as far as I know it's always been about his bigoted beliefs on gays and lesbians. But that's not racism.

Muenster -  And just because people believe in gay and lesbian rights that doesn't mean they hate Mormons. Thats not one int the same by any means... But from my own life, I've witnessed pretty hateful things from Mormons against gays. One of my good friends, who was Mormon came out to his family. His parents first response were " we can hope he dies in a car accident". That's hateful stuff. I don't see the gay and lesbian community doing things like that. Especially since they are just fighting for the rights everyone else already has.

Muenster, dammit alright. I'll admit it. I'll say it out loud: I hate Normans! I've never met a guy named Norman that was decent. Parents who name their kids Norman must know they are bad or else getting the name makes them evil.

Evil, evil Normans!

Saw the movie, and I thought it was great. It's nice to see a sci fi flick with a lot of action that actually has a story to ponder. I had no problem with the acting or dialogue. The kid who played Ender did a great job IMO.

Yeah, the movie did feel rushed through some of the battle school training and probably could have been 10-15 minutes longer. Perhaps there will be a director's cut DVD. But I didn't think that took away from the quality of the movie.

@ Tevii You should read the comments before commenting then. This is what tiredjay had to say in his post on the first page.

Card doesn't donate to anti-LGBT charities. He runs an actual hate group, plus the guy's a racist to boot.

Hence my comment.

Some of us would like to just talk about movies on this site.

This could be the greatest movie ever made, but if a penny of my ticket price finds its way back to Orson Scott Card, I will have failed myself.  When this ends up on Netflix, a service I already pay for, adds it I will consider viewing it.

Wiseguy 11/3/2013 3:46:58 PM

Bunch of assholes around here with this fake outrage over Card's views. If you were true to your word you wouldn't bother with most of the stuff coming out of Hollywood.

Btw he isn't getting any proceeds from the film, he already got his money when he optioned the book so boycotting the film ain't doing your pussy-ass purpose any good except to give you a false sense of moral high ground but we know most talking that junk are just hypocrites

What Wise has said is true. I personally don't agree with his views on gays but like Austrian composer Richard Wagner of Ride of the Valkyries fame whose anti-semitic views helped inspire Nazism I keep the art seperate from the artist.

And moving to the subject at hand, I saw Ender's Game this weekend and liked it. It told a great story which to me felt like a sci-fi Harry Potter. I thought Ford, Spencer, Kingsley, the boy and other kid actors did a great job and it was a good story. I'm sure there was alot of stuff that got left out from the book but that happens in all movie adaptations.

The only thing that didn't feel right ot me was the very end. It was very abrupt.  In spoiler free bits,  things occurred at the end that seemed to need more explanation and discussion between the characters and it wasn't there. It went to the next step dictated by the story but it felt like it needed another 15 minutes for it all to be put together. Even the audience I saw it with seemed to pause for a moment as the credits roll thinking, "Wait, that's it?"

Hey movieboy that's an interesting concept. Kind of a hard thing to do though when even some of the authors on this site have written articles of there personal opinions of Card. Maybe you ought to direct that shit at them.

@ignitethepages - the subplot you mentioned is not in the movie. I could be wrong but I don't even think it's hinted at.
