I've been away for awhile, but I thought I'd log in to see what the good ol' maniacs are saying about GotG. I saw it last night, and I was completely captivated. It felt fresh, fun, and really had me laughing. Besides The Winter Soldier, I think it was the best film of the summer. So in that sense, I give it an A.

I did think it got too goofy at times, and that the neon-colored aliens got a little too schlocky for me. But for the most part, I thought it was brilliant. I'm going to see it again on Sunday. And I NEVER go to see movies twice in the theater!

This movie was 100% an A not even close to a B. Can't believe planet of the apes got an A and this Got a B from rob smh. The CGI and sets were amazing so crisp clear and fun. This movie opens the door wide for Marvel by introducing other characters in the Marvel universe which is share genius on the part of Disney. Def the best movie this year much more fun and refreshing then any movie this year. It's such a great movie

This was an A but Dawn/Apes was a better movie. This movie was more fun though.

Wiseguy you kill me.

Just saw it tonight...I thought the B grade it got here was fair.  IMO it wasn't close to being as good as CapA 2.  And last credit scene was definitely IM3ish.  That's something where Mavel might have their first bomb if they try to pursue the idea for a movie. The movie for that character was a flop in the 80's and I don't see a future flick being successful either.

Saw it last night. It really was a fun, simple but funny movie. I did have some basic knowledge of the character beforehand, but that was due to the GotG always being mentioned in any big Marvel the-universe-might-be-destroyed event. But a comic book movie that fanboys and girls have close to equal footing on. My wife loved it and I am sure me not whispering little fanboy facts in her ear the whole time helped.

I haven't seen it yet.  I'll wait until the following weekend. It'll be less crowded. It's looking to make close to a 100 million this weekend. If it does, it doesn't look good for the Turtles.

Saw it last night, and as I was afraid of I was a little underwhelmed.  Great movie in itself, but on the low end for a Marvel movie.  TBH so far for me, all of the initial movies for new intros -Cap1, Thor1- have been underwhelming for me.  The second runs are always better.

What makes me wonder, is why all the fuss about Ant Man being handicapped for wanting to be a standalone movie, when this clearly was a standalone.  Aside from Thanos and the stone, this could have been totally apart from the current continuity.. which it is, kinda.  Going by plot time GotG was probably set in the 90s.

*shrug*  It was entertaining enough but it's low on my ranks of the Marvel movies.

Just got back from seeing it, the wife and I both enjoyed it.

Makabriel, the fuss about making Ant Man a standalone movie is because Ant Man is part of the Avengers.  I agrree that GOTG works as a stand alone but the connection to the Avengers isn't as strong as Ant Man's.  What the audience wants to see is a universe where all these things exist and connect.  Marvel got out in front of all that desire and the brand has never been better.

When my parents, who know nothing about comics or couldn't care less about them, are willing to see a Marvel Movie opening weekend because they know it's Marvel and they will most likely enjoy it, you have something special.

Saw it again last night, LOVED IT.

I think Marvel's tone works great, the action/comedy mix is perfect. Not to mention it's sentimental moments. I mean you had to feel some empathy for Rocket and Drax as well as SL of course making these heroes all the more loveable

I will admit that the one thing I didn't like was the first post credit scene. A bit too goofy even for a film with a talking raccoon
