I give it two thumbs up.

Two severed thumbs...

I'm looking forward to this now. I watched House of the Devil  a week or so ago, and it was very effective in making the protagonist very human and likeable and building up the tension enormously without using torture porn.

I haven't been impressed with Ti West's work, and even though I found The Innkeepers to be his most enjoyable effort, I thought it was still lacking.  I found Sara Paxton to be very entertaining and likable, but the male costar was irritating, and the dialogue between them felt forced and unnatural.   During the first scene in the basement, Luke had a freak out and ran out of the building, yet remained awfully calm during the finale.  Not to mention his complete lack of emotion after his obvious crush had just died.  Speaking of...was it the ghost who killed her, or her injuries from falling down the stairs?  Why would the ghosts want to kill or harm her?  Did I miss some backstory about them being malevolent?  And what was up with their ghost hunting microphone?  They're wearing headphones and I'm assuming have the mic turned up to pick up otherwise inaudible frequencies...and then they keep talking DIRECTLY INTO THE MIC and acting as if they're not blowing out their ears.  Bad.  There was just too much that didn't make sense, and I didn't find a single moment in this film frightening.  B ?  Really??
