Yeah, I walked out of the theatre after ROTS wondering why Yoda & Obi Wan just chilled out for 20 years.  I can see laying low for a little while, but years?

The other puzzling question I had concerned high ground.  Little did I know that if one (slightly less gifted) Jedi stood a few feet above another (supposedly more gifted) Jedi/Sith that would be all that it took to chop off all his arms and legs with one blow if he jumped at you.  WTF???

Still liked ROTS, though.  I would mind seeing these movies in 3D, but will probably only go if my friends ask me to.

That "I have the high ground." bit didn't work too well when Darth Maul stood over Obi-Wan as he hung from the ledge in TPM.

yeah, considering there could only ever be 2 dark jedi at a time, why wouldn't Yoda and Obi Wan seek as many jedi survivors as they could and build the rebellion themselves?  Neither of those guys had any intention of fighting the empire ever again when we catch up with them in the original trilogy.  Obi Wan didn't recognize the droids and he seemed surprised and even a tiny bit bothered by the message he recieves from the princess asking for his help, he even drags Luke along so he can pawn it all off on him!!!  He didn't need to stick around on Tatooine to watch over Luke, he left him there for the same reason he stayed, he knew that Vader would never go back there after his mother died and it made the perfect hiding place!  If anything, had Obi Wan been discovered there they might have found Luke as well! A bit of a cowardly existence........

Mostly I jest, writing a prequel that makes 100% sense with a trilogy thats 20 years behind it has got to be a challenge to say the per the results..........but when a guy starts thinking about..........Obi and Yoda just layed down, ran away and hid on 3rd world's not the jedi way......

As much as I hate to give George some more money I really want my boys to be able to say they got to see Starwars in the theater. I was too young to see the original three but I did go see ep. 1,2,3. For good and bad, Starwars will forever be around. I want my kids to be able to be a part of that and not miss out because dad was mad and George L. I am sure if there is ever another format for movie all six movies will be rereleased again, but I am not willing to wait and see.

I'm caving and will see it. Good review Rob, hit all the right points, and you made some good observations about Jake Lloyd's performance; although I regard it overall more positively than you, putting the annoying factor down to the fact that Lucas hasn't got the faintest idea how children speak.

It looks as though I'll be seeing TMP 3-D after all.  Red Letter Media put up a downloadable commentary track on their site that I just picked up.  I suspect I'll be getting some odd looks at the theatre as I laugh through the entire film.

I couldn't even set through this again.  Not in 3D, not in 4D...not ever again.

And, Lucus can stuff Greedo shot first defense.  That guy was the worst shot for a bounty hunter ever.  I think he doesn't quite get what made Han cool to the audience.  He was a pirate and a survivor.  Before Luke's club, he was out for himself and protecting his ass.  Yeah, he is keeping Greedo shooting off to the side wall for all to enjoy in 3D.

I'm sorry, I grew up on the original Star Wars trilogy, but George really has milked us for all it is worth.  I'm pretty happy with my original, unaltered versions on DVD.  Star Wars and Empire are really the only ones I care to watch anymore.

"but The Phantom Menace never lets technical polish eclipse organic plausibility."

Are you out of your mind?! That's mostly what this film–along with the next two installments–does. I'm not beyond giving The Phantom Menace some props, but to say that Lucas wasn't obsessed with technical polish to the point of degrading the storyline is absurd and you should have your Star Wars and movie critic cards revoked for trying to even argue that point.

I'm just glad they got rid of the awful looking Yoda puppet from TPM.  I don't own the blu-ray version but was watching it with a friend and when I saw the digital version that actually resembles the original Yoda, there was a little joy in my heart.  Actual emotions you can read through the face and his expressions.  It was really dissappointing to see that puppet the first time I saw TPM after the genius of Empire and Jedi.  I wonder what Frank Oz was thinking coming up with that crapfest.  30 yrs younger and Yoda looks like a character from Gremlins 2?!  Come on!

Saw it yesterday, got my free podracer 3D goggles and 2 freebies so I didn't have to beat up any kids for theirs :) Too bad the 3D glasses weren't real goggles but still cool. They even had some extra activities with face paintings, someone dressed as Queen Amidala and Darth Maul for pictures and other activities at the theater for the kids, even the big kids

Well I'm an unabashed lover of all 6 episodes even if more of some than others so I had a great time watching it in 3D. Really good conversion. I do prefer the cgi Yoda so score one for cgi over practical effects as far as I'm concerned. Some parts looked really cool in 3D and some looked like nothing or little was done but overall it was really good. Heck even JarJar was easier on the eyes in 3D :)
