Mania Time Warp

Mania on this Day: Spike Sacrifices, Lohan Madness & Indy Fact-Checking

By: Jarrod Sarafin
Date: Saturday, May 24, 2008

Hey fellow Maniacs and welcome to the second edition Mania Time Warp! This is the place where you can kick off your shoes, relax on your Saturday afternoon, and travel back in time with us to see the history of the realm of Mania on this day 1, 3, and 5 years ago.

Strap in your seats as we’re about to travel around the sun a few times (Star Trek IV) and by all means, queue the theme song as we “Boldly Go Where Maniacs Have Gone Before…

5 Years Ago Today

Link: Is BUFFY's Spike really an ANGEL?

Overview: Five years ago today in the world of Mania, the Joss Whedon fans were eagerly awaiting some word of whether the devious-turned-reformed Spike would be returning up again, despite his world-saving sacrifice in the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” series finale.

Check out the link above to see what Joss Whedon had to say to fans.

3 Years Ago Today

Link:

Link: Scoop Patrol: Lohan in MI: III? More STAR WARS Before TPM?

Overview: Mania was in scoop overdrive on this day in Mania History, with two wild scoops. One was clearly off the mark but not due to Mania so much as the wild ravings of one Lindsay Lohan. The other one as wild with George Lucas talking to a fan while soaking in the suns of a Hawaii beach. Clearly, he wasn’t kidding with the fan in saying that there would be more Star Wars adventures after Revenge of the Sith, with a new live-action series on the horizon and another Clone Wars hitting theaters, then television this fall.

Check out the wild ravings of Lohan and the fan feedback from George above.

1 Year Ago Today

Link: Indy 4 Facts Revealed

Overview: Very fitting that one year ago today, you fellow Maniacs were discussing the rumors centering on Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and one year later, you’re giving your thoughts in our official review. While most rumored speculation is usually off the mark so early in pre-production, judging from the link above, the rumors turned into facts a year later. Well, except the title of the film.

Check out the “on the mark” speculation above and see what a lot of you Maniacs were saying a year ago today.

"And that should do it for this first edition of Mania Time Warp! "

Did you go back in time and delete last weeks time warp? Cos this is the second in my timeline. :P

Just a thought, maybe focus on posting more new news rather than rehashing old news.

As a person who lives his life through media, I am in high support for this kind of article. When I first heard Spike was going on Angel I was freaking out. When Indy 4 facts were being released, I was freaking out. When Lindsay Lohan was drunk in the back seat of a car...

...I was REALLY excited about Spike being on Angel.

Great segment, keep the nostalgia coming!

TayDor, do not read the article, man. No need for you to be rude...

Didn't think I was being rude, just posting an opinion about the article. I didn't insult Jarrod.

Sounds like you were, TayDor....

One of the problems of written media, its easy for people to see rudeness where none was intended. I will endevour to be more careful in the future.

I remember when the rumors said it might be called Indian Jones and the Lost City of Atlantis.

Here is the thing. Taydor is not being rude. But what gets me about some Maniacs is that they just love to post on articles that they don't like or get. NOT EVERY ARTICLE IS GOING TO BE FOR YOUR LIKING. I have to put caps because this is something I need to keep on reminding people.

Some people like Mustard, some like Ketchup. I like both, maybe I am a renaissance man or something crazy. But not ever article on this site, which has been about 30,000 over the past 5 years, is going to tickle your fancy or some other body part I don't want to know about.

Again, if you don't like a particular column or don't get a particle feature, etc.., don't continue to read it. And if you just can't help yourself reading it, here is a "thought" Taydor. Don't comment on it, especally in a public forum.

While I appreciate everyone's comments, if you have a problem with a column or you think we are not focusing on things to your liking, send me a note at chip@mania.com and don't just tell me to focus more on news or something vague like that. My email address is widely known and not to mention your comments such as this will be more acceptable in this forum, it will prevent all of us from wasting time in front of people that enjoy that particular column.

Well, I like mustard on my dogs and tell anyone who prefers ketchup that they're crazy and sneer at them. Nothing wrong with expressing a dissenting or negative opinion as long as it isn't personal, IMO.

It's surprising to see that a year ago Indy wasn't being received too well by maniacs. A lot of negative comments and the area 51 gave away the alien thing. They should've kept some details from the public.

Positive, Negative, if you can't get around how people express themselves or how they feel then to fricking bad...This site is all about whether or not you like or dislike the news being presented to you and here you are free to express your opinion...If I don't like something I have read, then I will say so and vise versa...I have nothing against the editor or is my expressed opinion directed towards the editor because he/she reports the news with an unbias view not make it up, if the editors here take offense to that, then that is a shame in and of it's self...I happen to like Time Warp, so keep up the good work...

Chip, by the way the site is looking and working a hell of a lot better...There is one thing though, some news you cannot read because advertising on both sides of news get in the way, for instance check out the Indy and other movie grosses article and you will see what I mean, other than that not too much to complain about...
