Mania's LOST Poll

Joe wants your Lost thoughts!

By Joe Oesterle     May 22, 2009

Mania presents the conundrums to be touched upon in this season of ABC's LOST(2009)
© Mania.com/Robert Trate

Greetings fellow LOST junkies, and welcome to 32 some weeks of the DT’s. Charlie Pace only thought heroine withdraw was tough, but that’s because he never got hooked on his own show.

As long as we all take the first step and admit that we’re addicted to this show, that’s a good first step. Another important thing to remember is we’re all our own support group here. You all have my personal email, (Joe@JoeArtistWriter.com) so if things get rough, feel free to reach out to me. I’ll be there for each of you should the need arise.

Now, there’s no reason we have to kick this thing cold turkey, and that’s why I decided to address some of the concerns and theories that we as a group came up with during this last week.

You can answer one, or all of the poll questions listed - just remember; there are no right and wrong answers. (Unless your answer is diametrically opposed to my own – in which case you will be wrong.)

 Let’s begin, shall we?

Jacob

1)      Jacob is good, even though that’s exactly what they want us to believe.
2)      Jacob is evil. The evidence is too compelling for him to prove good, ergo, Jacob is a nasty son of a bitch
3)      There is no good or evil on this island. Only shades of grey.

Jacob Touched Lil Kate and Lil Jimmy Ford

1)      By touching these two, and having them both promise they will no longer steal, or seek vengeance, Jacob has altered the history of both Kate and Sawyer, possibly giving them both squeaky clean lives by 2004.
2)      Jacob’s touch will change the future, but Kate and Sawyer will still have stole and conned by adulthood.
3)      Jacob should know better than to touch little children.

Juliet, Wherefore Art Thou, Juliet?

1)      Juliet will return next season as a semi-regular, the bomb reset her fate too.
2)      Juliet may return in a flashback, but her character is dead.
3)      Juliet will look hot, even if she’s an alien in the new “V.”

Doooooooooooooouuuuuchhhhe!

1)      Radzinsky is a douche.
2)      Radzinsky is a giant douche.
3)      Radzinsky is a giant douche. His douchery is legendary, and I would never want him on my team or the opposing team during a friendly softball game
4)      I love Radzinky, which it turns out, makes me a pretty big douche myself

Faraday

1)      Daniel Faraday knew he was supposed to be shot when he entered the Others camp, firing a live round, and counting to three.
2)      Daniel Faraday knew he was supposed to be shot when he entered the Others camp, firing a live round, and counting to three, but he had no idea his mom would be the triggerman.
3)      Daniel Faraday had a bad plan, and got shot.

Smokey

1)      Smokey and The Man in Black are one in the same, and any time we’ve seen what we assumed was Smokey, it was The Man in Black.
2)      The Man in Black can assume shapes, but so can Jacob.

Vincent

1) Vincent will figure prominently into Season Six (bark once for yes)
3)      Vincent will figure not prominently into Season Six (bark twice for no)

WAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLTTTT!!!!!!

1)      We’ll definitely see Walt in Season Six. He was established as too big a character to leave him on the street corner of his school in New York.
2)      Get over it Joe, we’re never seeing Walt again. (And that goes for Libby too.)

Lapidus

1)      Frank Lapidus will prove worthy to be a candidate for Ilana’s team.
2)      Frank does not have the right stuff, and will be killed off.

Lapidus Part Two

1)      Frank Lapidus is so cool, he will single-handedly bring back the open shirt, grey chest hair look for middle-aged men across this great land of ours,
2)      Oh Christ, please no!

The Real John Locke

1)      The real John Locke was killed in a seedy L.A. motel by Ben Linus, and will never be seen or heard from again
2)      The real John Locke has been slowly infiltrated by island forces from the beginning, and hasn’t been himself since he was first scanned by Smokey.
3)      The real John Locke will land safely, but still paralyzed, in LAX, in 2004.

Sun and Jin’s Baby

1)      Sun and Jin won’t have a baby, because if they land in 2004, they’ll never get pregnant.
2)      Who cares, we haven’t seen that kid enough to have any feelings for her.

The Shephard Men

1)      The Shephard Men have a long and storied history with that island.
2)      It’s just a coincidence that Jack, his dead dad, and his half-nephew have all visited.

Jack’s Grandfather

1)      Jack is his own grandfather
2)      No freaking way. That’s reaching, even for the time travel loving nerds.

Jaters vs Skaters

1)      Kate will eventually hook up with Jack and only Jack.
2)      Kate will eventually hook up with Sawyer and only Sawyer.
3)      Kate is a fickle little slut, and she’ll do whatever she wants to do
4)      Because of Jacob’s touch, Kate will be married to her childhood sweetheart, and therefore won’t make a play for either guy.

Charlie

1)      Because the plane never crashes, Charlie Pace will make a few more appearances this coming seasons.
2)      Charlie’s not coming back, and DriveShaft sucks.

Claire

1)      What’s the deal with Claire. Is she dead or what?
2)      Seriously, what’s her deal anyway?

Sayid

1)      Sayid said it himself, he cannot be saved. However this is interpreted, bad things are coming Sayid’s way.
2)      Sayid will be saved. Jacob will see to it.

Beneath the Planet of the Apes

1)      Beneath the Planet of the Apes is an overlooked movie classic. It’s a worthy sequel to one of the greatest Sci-Fi motion pictures of all times.
2)      I hate it, which makes me a bigger douche than Radzinsky.

The Others

1)      The Others are the child survivors and offspring of the original 815 crash.
2)      Nice theory AmishPirate, but you’re wrong.

Adam and Eve

1)      Rose and Bernard are Adam and Eve
2)      No duh.

They’re Coming

1)      Jacob’s last words are in reference to the Oceanic passengers he touched. They will come to save him.
2)      Jacob is referring to Ilana and Bram
3)      Jacob is referring to a totally different group of people then the above.

LAX

1)      We will start Season 6 with our heroes landing safely in 2004 on the tarmac at LAX. The trick will be how the writers bring them back to the island.
2)      We’ll see them crash again – in 2004 again
3)      They will be stuck in 1977. That explosion meant nothing.

Ok fellow LOST junkies. That’s all for now. There are plenty of other questions I’ve got planned, but if this gets enough response, I’ll have a new poll next week. Remember, one day at a time. Stay strong, and Namaste. – Joe.

Look, the past does not change. Scenes from the past are the past, not an altered past. There is no such thing as an altered past. Dead is dead and past is past. You can't change it. By extension, you can't change the future either (but you haven't seen the future so how would you know?).

The bomb couldn't possibly have killed the main characters, yet if they were in the vicinity when it went off, they'd die. So... it triggered another time shift (hopefully the last). Probably they will end up in the 'present' but maybe the 'future'. But who time shifted? Only those near the blast? Was Sayid close enough or does he stay in the 70s?

I hope the Jacob/MiB connection is something more complex than good and evil. Better if they're personifications of some philosophies that are meant to remain balanced. Like, Jacob representing nurture and MiB representing the need to cull the weak so the flock survives. Basically opposing forces that work best together. With either one out of the way, it's a disaster. But dead is dead and Jacob is dead. Resolution: we need a new Jacob.

There are only two things in this world that I'm addicted to 1) my bong 2)Lost. While hitting the former I was contemplating the latter and a theory dawned on me and I'm interested in everyone's thoughts. So we see Hurley with a guitar right.. right? Let's assume that the Losties get transported back to the current events under the statue ("they're coming"). Suddenly, due to some temporal shift we somehow get our buddy Charlie back and everything kicks ass! BUT- after time we see Charlie is actually Jacob reincarnated a la Flocke. Then Farlie saves the day by Drive Shafting Flocke in his face.

BlackRab 5/22/2009 6:47:20 AM

I don't think that the bomb will modify the timeline. The bomb will probably cause an incident similar to the one that happened when Desmond blew up the hatch. When that happened, he didn't die, he just re-appeared naked in the jungle (let's hope that Kate and Juliet will reappear naked in the jungle...) and had all these temporal visions. If the same happens to Jack and company, they'll probably be back to the present and fall in a coma to switch back to the past once in a while just like Desmond.

Concerning the fake Locke, I just thought of something. Danielle said that her crew became crazy (evil). I think that they probably died in the temple and the crew that came back were fake just like Locke.

As for Jacob, did anyone notice his accent ? On the island, when you see the Black Rock in the ocean, he seems to be speaking with a modern american accent. If he's an old soul (or angel or whatever), wouldn't he have an accent that would match that period ? I think that he probably comes from our present or our future and he's stuck in a time loop somehow. Anyway, that's just my theory.

I don't think that the man in black and the smoke monster are the same. If the man in black was stuck in the cabin, how come the smoke monster was free to go anywhere on the island ? Also, I don't think that the smoke monster is a demon or something like that. Around the camp of the others they have an electromagnetic force field to keep the monster out. It would take more than that to stop a demon.

Ok, I've never posted before, but I feel I need to put my ideas out there so when I'm right at the end of next season, I can prove it in writing!  Ok, first off... the island is Atlantis.. or at least part of it.  The story's been done before... an advanced society is tired of the behavior of man, so separates themselves from the rest of the world.  Having a perfect society, and being full of brialliant men and women, they have super advanced technology, such as Smokey, being able to 'Move the Island', time travel, etc.  The island is powered by a super advanced power source, which we know can wreak havoc when messed with - drilled in to - and is buried in the center of the island.  Jacob and the Man in Black are some of the original Atlantians, possibly guards to ensure nobody gets into the actual city.  The city, with all of the Atlantians, is buried in the island also.  So, Jacob and the other guy, differ on what to do with people... Jacob hopes that people have changed their ways, and they should possibly integrate with society again, and the other guy still thinks humans are heathens, and they should keep themselves isolated.  So Jacob, going against the rules, is trying to bring people to the island.  He has searched a long time, and has finally found a few people who are pure and good to show them humans have changed.

Well, minus the details, that's my ideas so far.  I can fit all of the small, little details to work into this, and if you think something might not fit, just let me know and I'll prove how it fits.  Anyway, it's taken me years to finalize this idea... I've gone from Purgatory, Alien Spaceship, they're all ghosts... but I've always come back to Atlantis, so I'm sticking with it.  I think it works.

BlackRab 5/22/2009 8:34:56 AM

Hum, interesting theory Divo, that would explain the disappearance of Atlantis. It didn't sink, it vanished in time and space.

No no no.  Here is the true story of what's going on in Lost.  Let me drop some hints to where I'm going with this.  Volcano and H-Bomb.

You see, it's very simple  Lord Xenu captured the citizens of the Galactic Confederacy, put them on a spaceship and flew them to Earth.  Then he found the Island and in the Island's volcano he let loose those people, dropped the Hbomb to murder them and then collected their souls through various stations around the world (the first Dharma Stations).  After he collected their souls he made them watch a movie. Remember the room where they had Alex's boyfriend watching some weird stuff?  That's what is used by Xenu to brianwash the souls and it makes them forget who they are and fills them with lies about religion and other matters of the world.

Why are there dead people on the Island?  Because they are the souls of those citizens, aka Thetans roaming around cause Xenu didn't capture them.

Later Lord Xenu was captured (in the cabin surrounded by the ash) by the Loyal Officers (jacob).

You see it's very clear what's going on in the Island.  Now you all owe me $6500 according to Wikipedia for giving you this information.

Where's the review of Wednesday's episode?  We finally saw the Black Pearl in all her pirating glory!  And that bit with the swashbuckeling on the giant wheel ruled.

ripum853 5/22/2009 11:35:29 AM

Jacob- 1) He's essentially good.  Sure, he'll probably have some dark sides to him as well, but not entirely shade of grey neither.

Jacob Touched lil Kate and Sawyer- new option 4) Won't make a difference, like everything that Kate's involved with in this show.

Juliet- A bit both of options 1) and 3)...hopefully.  But yeah, at least she'll still be hot with a nice rack on V...and still in the movie GIA on DVd.

Radzinsky- 2) He's a giant douche.  But I'm always too busy hating on Kate to think that Radzinsky was the biggest douche in the world.

Faraday- 3) :'-(  I hate to say it, but it's true.  Hopefully his fate is altered, or what a waste his character will be.

Smokey- 1) Or at least I hope so, that would be the cooler way to go.

Vincent- 2) He'll never figure prominently...especially since I think it was a different dog used as him for the Season five finale.

Walt- 2) I think he's pretty much finished, the creators are too afraid of him aging too quickly.

Real John Locke- ???? NO idea, just have to wait and see with this one.  My guess is that he's really dead.

The Shepherd Men- 2)Maybe not a coincidence, but the Shepherd's history on the island stops with Christian.  And the Jack as his own grandfather theory is just plain silly.

Jaters vs Skaters- Sawyer and Kate will probably end up as the couple, since that's the pair that the creators and most of the female fan base (the only ones that care about this part of the show anymore) like the best.  Of course Kate will continue to be option 3) until then....horrible pain in the ass, cock tease, wast of time, bitch.

Charlie, Claire, Sayid- Hopefully this alters Charlie, but I doubt it...Desmond altered Charlie's fate enough to possibly get it to this point anyway.  Claire will be back, don't know if we'll found out her fate though, since it might be altered.  Don't know with Sayid.

Beneath Planet of the Apes- It's an ok film, but I've been getting tired of hearing about it since after it's first reference in these reviews/boards.  YYYYYyyyyyyaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnnnnnn......

Sorry AmishPirate, but nah.  And all evidence points to Bernard and Rose as Adam and Eve for now.

They're coming will mean...I'll guess one, although touching them didn't make a difference lol.

And with LAX, I'm guessing they're going to crash onto the Island again anyway in 2004...but since there are some things untied/plot holes remaining, and we've invested so much in the current dimension, and this would probably effect present day Fake Locke, Ben, Jacob's "They're Coming", that perhaps it does nothing neither??  But what a rip that would be.

Hobbs 5/22/2009 12:12:43 PM

Maybe Smokey is Jacob?  Now that I'm thinking about it...Smokey gave Eko a pass the first time he came across him when he was quoting scripture then killed him when he lost his faith and threw it in smokeies face that he didn't regret anything.

Now if Smokey is Jacob then he was Ben's daughter and he told Ben to listen to everything fake Locke had to say thus knowing he was going to kill him...granted that would mean that Jacob can shape shift but then again they haven't shown us that he can't.

JarrodSarafin 5/22/2009 12:34:06 PM

Errr Amish, which episode are you referring to? Joe reviewed the Lost season finale last week. There was no new episode this week.
