COMICSCAPE: Watching out for a WATCHMEN sequel - Nov 26, 2008 - 11:59am
When I first read Watchmen back in 86-87, it was a mistake as I thought I was picking up a different comic and it happened to be halfway through the series. Anyway, this series has been re-read no less than twenty times since then and it never fails to entertain. A little dated but the characters are classic. I always wanted to see this on the big screen just to see how it would translate and soon I as well as numerous others will have their wish. Although AM isn't happy AT ALL about this, I for one can't wait. That being said, the whole Watchmen prequel game seems pretty lame to me. Why ruin a perfectly good classic with prequels or sequels or spinoffs? Having been spoofed in Simpsons is fine, a movie is great, lunchboxes, spin-offs, tie-ins, and games (and this coming from a HUGE GAMER) are a bit tired. Don't leech it to death.
All in all, this still doesn't detract from Watchmen being a damn, fine limited series no matter what kind of guano comes out of the Machine. My wife and I are going to the opening night and unfortunately, she will not be joining me for the showing right after that one. :-) Yes, my buns are going to hurt.
Sylvain White sends THE LOSERS on mission - Nov 08, 2008 - 06:05am
Like I said back then, Stomp The Yard? Really? Ronin in the hands of Sylvain? Time will tell but I hope this doesn't go the way of DBZ: Live Action because that shit looks like ass. And wasn't Peter Berg doing this at first?
Samuel L. Jackson Goes for Glow in THE LAST DRAGON - Oct 30, 2008 - 01:09pm
well, no one said it, so here it goes:
"Who is the muthafuckin' master, muthafucka??!! Muthafuckin' right, Sho Nuff, bitch! What!??! Say what again!!!"
Warner Bros. aims for HEADSHOT - Oct 16, 2008 - 06:35am
The Killer is actually a very well written and drawn GN with a premise close to a short story idea I had. Had to change some stuff after noting some similiarities.
Toy Maniac: Battling the Force Unleashed - Sep 18, 2008 - 06:17am
Other games for the Wii such as Godfather (a great port), Bully (another awesome port), No More Heroes are good reasons to get a Wii. The others mentioned especially Mario Kart make the Wii a fun party console. I use my Wii a lot and the wife and family enjoy it. The PS3 is really for myself and a few buddies that used to have LAN parties back in the day. Nintendo, I love your product, but damn your processors need a kick in the ass. Give us GTA!!!!!
Toy Maniac: Battling the Force Unleashed - Sep 18, 2008 - 05:21am
I bought the Wii version and have to say that I am conflicted. I WANT to love this game but find myself just liking it. The graphics aren't on par with the higher end consoles but I wanted to see how the Wii did handling the movements and it is close to a massive fail. I was able to beat the Rogue Jedi without a problem as well as some other major baddies that I will not reveal. It is challenging, offers duel mode (which can be a little disconcerting at times with awkward camera angles interfering with gameplay), yet is missing what Wii owners truly wanted; one-to-one lightsaber movements. Why in the hell should it be reduced to a right-left, left-right, upward, downward, and thrust?? Especially when Nintendo has an addition to the Wiimote that is supposed to give one-to-one matching? Yeah, I have to say I feel ripped off and am not getting Clone Wars Lightsaber Duels and give this game a 7 out of ten with a 3 out of ten for the lightsaber movement restrictions.
Update: First WATCHMEN Trailer Online - Jul 18, 2008 - 05:59am
I couldn't wait until tonight to see this b4 TDK, and DAMN am I glad I didn't. Can you say chills up the spine? From day 1, I have always had the opinion that Zack would handle this proper, and damn this trailer proves it. Just hope that QUITE a few changes were made to the script(s) but anything is better than Sam Hamm's script. What garbage. Counting down the days. Maybe we'll get Watchmen Babies in V for Vacation. ;-)
McKellen and Caviezel Leads AMC's PRISONER - Jul 01, 2008 - 06:05am
I was fortunate enough to watch a VHS copy of the series taped off of Sci Fi awhile back and bought the dvds as soon as they appeared. I don't know about Jim as Number 6. Ian McKellen would be an excellent 2 without a doubt. What about that Prisoner movie though? Maybe a followup to the new miniseries?
THE INCREDIBLE HULK - Jun 12, 2008 - 06:22am
I enjoyed Ang Lee's take, not a great film, but a risky one that didn't pay off at the BO. Looking forward to seeing this just to see the damned sonic clap that was missing from the first one. And I'm not going to front, the TV series was cheesy yet awesome.
New Teaser Poster for WITCHBLADE - May 27, 2008 - 10:58am
Ten dolla says it is Jennifer Garner, and if it is, HELL's NO I ain't seeing this shite.
5 Almost-Great Sci-Fi Films Worth a Second Look - May 15, 2008 - 12:46pm
@eaglemaniac: if I remember correctly, BB and friends are trying to end world hunger and the watermelons had to withstand a lot of pressure so they can be dropped from airplanes and not shatter on impact. ;-) I think I watched that movie too many times. BB is the reason why I wanted to have fifty different careers before I was 25. Peter Weller used to be the man. And why isn't the Last Starfighter up here? That movie easily foretold the future of gaming for 2052. HA! And come on, Bad Taste ruled!
The Mania Manifesto: Five Signs the Apocalypse is Upon Us - Apr 22, 2008 - 06:01am
"KANEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" shall be the new "KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!" Seriously though, why? Why not a live adaptation of Blade of the Immortal or Ninja Scroll to start?
Miller May Be Up for HARD BOILED - Apr 22, 2008 - 05:48am
I don't know what to think of this. Hard Boiled is one of the best comics Miller has ever written and Darrow's art is so tight and Bosch-like that it would be incredibly challenging to translate this to screen. I am all for it, but I don't know if Miller is up for directing.
New SW: CLONE WARS Pics Online - Apr 22, 2008 - 05:41am
I have to agree, this animation is just too weird. I was hoping it would be done anime-style ala Ninja Scroll or even Appleseed: EX Machina not this late 90s video game stylee. Even if it were done like Clone Wars would look better but I digress until I actually see it. Yeah, I'm almost 33 so I guess those nostalgic memories that come with age are starting up.
Mania Exclusive Interview: Simon Pegg - Apr 01, 2008 - 06:29am
Simon Pegg has the capacity to be this generation's Peter Sellers. He is a down to earth actor who can mingle with us mere mortals without resorting to diva-like behavior more becoming of well-known actors who follow a dead sci-fi writers' shitefest of a religion similar to national socialism. Oh boy, too much espresso.
BIOSHOCK MMO & Movie on Horizon? - Mar 27, 2008 - 06:24am
Bioshock is without a doubt one of the best games of all time. It deserves to be up there with Half-Life, Half-Life2, & GTA series as revolutionary gaming with a heart. I just finsihed playing it on my laptop this weekend and have to say it was well worth the good ending. Movie-wise, I can see James Cameron, Peter Jackson, or even Guillermo Del Toro pulling this off with David Fincher producing. I have been a PJ fan since Bad Taste and feel he has the range and WETA to back him up.
Dark Horse and Universal Sign Deal - Mar 15, 2008 - 09:04am
This is sweet. What they need to do is adapt Blade of the Immortal, Hard Boiled, and Give Me Liberty. With the exception of Hard Boiled, I can totally see BOTI and GML as a franchise run. Then move up to Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot for the kiddies.
Official HULK Site Launched & More. - Mar 13, 2008 - 02:54pm
WTF was that? Matrix Hulk Revolutions? I am going to wait until I see the movie, but damn, I am not as excited as I was before. Bummer.
Snyder Reveals WATCHMEN Characters - Mar 06, 2008 - 05:25am
I have to say, WELL DONE! No nipples in the costumes, no jock strap on the outside, and damn Akerman looks H-O-T! Nite owl's costume is nice as well although at first glance I thought "Batman & Robin". Looking forward to 368 days!!!
Columbia Acquires Garth Ennis' BOYS - Feb 21, 2008 - 05:43am
Hmmmm. I don't know. The comic series is awesome, without a doubt, but can it faithfully be translated? This is a vicious, VERY adult-oriented series with Ennis' normal disdain for superheroes and their kind. Think of a real raunchy version of Watchmen with lots of dark humor and plenty of sight gags.
Snyder's Wrap Blog on WATCHMEN - Feb 20, 2008 - 09:12am
amateurscientist: you hit the nail on the head. A 140 minute movie will never be able to capture the freshness of a comic series from 85-86. I love the Watchmen and always will because even back then, I wanted to live in the world that was being depicted to experience Alan Moore/Dave Gibbons' world firsthand, to smell the curry, eat that hamburger at the end of the book, or even read the Black Freighter comic. It fascinated my eleven year old mind and although some of that fascination has faded, I remain a faithful fan. I have written many times over how this would make a great miniseries on cable or a trilogy if moved to film, but the general public's unawareness of such a groundbreaking comic would most likely thwart any sort of trilogy (break the 12 chapters into three 4-chapter movies). If only, if only. But I like Snyder's style and the pics that have been coming up have been inspiring. All I can say to those who HAVE NOT READ THE COMIC, don't read it until after the movie then see the movie again to truly gauge the experience. Doing it this route will allow you to maintain your expectations to a minimal without being disappointed. I believe someone else stated this on this board a while back, but I agree with that person if it was indeed on this baord. anyway, back to work and back to markiing my calender.
And when the hell is Give Me Liberty going to be made into a cable miniseries? HBO all the way or bust!
JUMPER - Feb 14, 2008 - 07:25am
OK, I am geeking out, but that's what this site is for, eh? There is a HUGE fundamental difference between teleporting and time travelling; Hiro can go from one spot to another, yes, but he can also time travel. The Jumper character cannot time travel. Either way, after reading Jumper and Reflex, I am psyched to go check this out. Not expecting a mindblower but Liman is the man.
Charlize Theron Joins Viggo in THE ROAD - Jan 15, 2008 - 10:34am
mlauzon, pick up syd field's screenwriting book and never look back. this is also a good resource: http://www.screenwriting.info/ BEst of luck to you! I myself am a fledgling writer/screenwriter. Finishing up my first short in March! Never give up. It took Peter Jackson 4 years to make Bad Taste and look at him now!
THE WOLFMAN Begins Filming Feb 8 - Jan 09, 2008 - 06:33pm
looking at del toro makes me seriously think they should have considered him over jackman.
Willis to Play Cop for SURROGATES - Nov 21, 2007 - 07:03am
I was wondering when this would be adapted. It is a very quick read and once you get to the end, you think there is more to it, but no, it ends and I cried. Well not really, but it was a great read and honestly think that the story may have been inspired by Asimov's book but in no way is it an exact Tarantino-duplicate. Should be good fun.
Raimi Too Exhausted for SPIDER-MAN 4 - Nov 13, 2007 - 09:34am
pony, that list is very hard to follow up. i would like to add Paul Greengrass, Ang Lee, and Wachowskis. I don't know why, but I think they would make a kickass Spidey movie.
Weinsteins Buy GATCHAMAN & ASTRO BOY - Sep 28, 2007 - 07:34pm
LOL gareee, totally with you on that one. But if it is released around the time Battle Angel Alita comes out (as long as Cameron doesn't take a long Titanic hiatus from groundbreaking shit) it may be too close ala Volcano and Dante's Peak. I just don't know about the Weinsteins. Warshowski brother and sisther (yes, it is on purpose) team would be better.
Doug Liman Transforms KNIGHT RIDER - Sep 28, 2007 - 06:49pm
You don't think making it more like Neon Genesis Evangelion where the car turns into a mecha and Michael comes out in a smaller but sleeker suit wouldn't be hot? I think it would be mad! But as a movie.... definitely a movie. If Joust can be made into a movie, so can KR.
Weinsteins Buy GATCHAMAN & ASTRO BOY - Sep 27, 2007 - 09:39pm
Hell's yes! I used to love M.A.S.K ! And Gatchaman is going to be tight. What about a Ninja Scroll live-action? Mix it up with a little Crouching Tiger, Matrix, Fearless, District B13 sort of stylee with a touch of Scorcese brutality. Word.
Megan Fox Confirms Desire for HACK/SLASH - Sep 27, 2007 - 09:34pm
LOL!!! From Hack/Slash to WW. Funny stuff. I agree though, she is perfect for H/ but not WW. A thicker, curvy more defined without the Chyna-ness bodied woman would have to be chosen. If only Lucy Lawless were younger or dammit can't think.... Too tired...........
Doug Liman Transforms KNIGHT RIDER - Sep 27, 2007 - 09:21pm
Maybe Kitt will turn into a Wendy's double cheeseburger and Michael gobbles him up. But seriously, let's not turn this into Spy Hunter. The evolution, okay, I get it but a I am just a tad weary. Given BSG is supposedly ending after this season, I need something to fill the void. And Liman is a cool director.
Universal Protecting LA SCORTA Remake - Sep 26, 2007 - 09:47pm
Whiskey, great points and Labryrinth if remade by either Del Toro or Cuaron or even Henson's son would be pretty wicked. The exception is a GOOD remake. Thief would be a hot remake especially if Mann got a chance to do it again (I enjoyed MV) but Greengrass would be a better choice. And the first Rollerball remake made me cheer the four month prison sentence Mc Tiernan (sorry John, but you fucked up, twice) received. The Gate? :-) Guilty pleasure. Another good one? Basket Case? Verne Troyer anyone? An updating of Strange Behavior (DisturbingcBehavior is bantha poodo) and finally, Scanners & Nightbreed. And I'm still shocked that people really didnt know that the Departed was a remake. I enjoyed IA and IA 3; 2 didn't do it for me.
Zack Snyder Updates WATCHMEN - Sep 26, 2007 - 06:15am
I'll reserve judgment until that final cut comes out. And the miniseries remake, and the stageplay, and the young adults readers that will evoke a phenom like HP. And then I'll wake up. But seriously, show us that you were the man for the job Zack and then make Hard Boiled (Geoff Darrow and Miller's, not Woo's) with Mickey Rourke or Bruce Willis as Nixon/Carl Burns. Talk about NC17! WOO HOO!!
Universal Protecting LA SCORTA Remake - Sep 26, 2007 - 06:11am
Dude in the front kind of looks like Vince Vaughn. Why not go a little further back than the last decade for remakes? Why not look at some sleepers that deserve a big screen retooling. I can't think of any right now because the coffee hasn't kicked in yet, but tehre are plenty deserving a remake, although I still stick to the fact that Hwood has run out of ideas, but who hasn't said that? At least I am trying to write something that I would like to see. And maybe a handful of others. LOL
THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY #1 - Sep 26, 2007 - 06:09am
This is an absolute buy and does indeed invoke the Victorian period of sci-fi like HG Wells, a tad of HP Lovecraft, and some Emily Strange for fun. I thoroughly enjoyed this first issue and am looking forward to the remainder of the series. Between Un-Men, this title, BPRD, and 30 Days of night (pick any!) I am a geek in heaven.
Adrien Brody Creates Monster in SPLICE - Sep 10, 2007 - 11:32am
Dren can also be a swear in the Farscape universe. ;-) God, I miss that show. Looks like I have to go watch it all over again with wifey.
HD IRON MAN Trailer Online Now - Sep 10, 2007 - 11:25am
THAT......WAS........TIGHT!!!!! RDJ, you are da man!!! Favreau, make us proud.
Rated R Clips of SHOOT 'EM UP Online - Aug 16, 2007 - 10:16pm
metal, nah man, have to strongly disagree that this is not a ripoff of lw&c; the point of the story was not to protect a baby but to obtain revenge. I am not harping on your opinion but only your sense of comparison. rock on.
Reading Rainbow - Aug 16, 2007 - 07:18am
"otaku gaijin needs to learn the language!" someone yeleld that at me once so I pikced up Marc Benabe's Japanese in Mangaland. It is a good beginner's book and uses manga to help us poor otaku learn the native language. And the cover is nice on the eyes. Nice article as it brought about some fond memories of my stepmother who used to read to me as a child. I wish she knew Japanese. :-)
Ejiofor For Singleton's BLACK PANTHER? - Aug 15, 2007 - 06:39pm
LOL 2 Monkeyfoot! Now that one is a mouthful of Africana right there. WHOA! I miss Ecko's character; he was one of the most complex, complicated, turnaround characters of the show. Talented actor. He should be in Black Panther in some capacity.
Ice Cube Ready to Compete in '10' - Aug 15, 2007 - 09:43am
THANK YOU, MLAUZON. I was thinking of everything I could to try and remember that movie in my DVD collection I watched once and forgot to throw out. LOL
Stephen Sommers Not Up For GI JOE - Aug 15, 2007 - 08:05am
LOL!! This is a sci-fi, fantasy, horror board, what did you expect? I for one can't wait for the Gummi Bears live action adaptation and the R-Rated Snorks. YEAH!!! And I think you meant big (s)hits as opposed to big hits. ;-)
Ejiofor For Singleton's BLACK PANTHER? - Aug 15, 2007 - 07:48am
LOL! Stupid urban drama! I forgot only rural and foreign environments can be used for something serious and universal. LOL! The silliness of it all.
Rated R Clips of SHOOT 'EM UP Online - Aug 15, 2007 - 07:44am
Looking forward to seeing this. Pretty fun to see Paul playing a bad guy and Clive just busting some shit up.I had to watch the headbutt scene several times just to get that Owen scowl with a damned scalpel piercing his forehead skin! LOL classic!
Ice Cube Ready to Compete in '10' - Aug 15, 2007 - 07:29am
I can't think of the movie, but there was an indy movie that came out a few years back about some people who had to kill one another for some cash prize. It was low, low budget with some laughable acting but was an original idea (well in light of Running Man, I think I have to take that back). This sounds pretty cool nonetheless.
Ejiofor For Singleton's BLACK PANTHER? - Aug 15, 2007 - 07:24am
Nice!!!! Edge is a damn fine actor and I know he could pull this off in aces! Tyrese is so not a good choice for Luke Cage though; I would rather see Terry Crews playing Luke Cage but he may be too old for the role. Chris Judge? I can see it but don't think he's the best choice either. Maybe an unknown would be better but what the hell do I know. And Johnny? Can you at least have an Iron Fist cameo near the end to begin Heroes for Hire? That would be some hotness!!
Stephen Sommers Not Up For GI JOE - Aug 15, 2007 - 07:16am
Yes, thank the gods!! Sommers makes fun movies but after awhile is likened to way too much cotton candy on an empty stomach. I say Paul Greengrass should be offered the helm.
Don Murphy Leads WE3 Adaptation - Aug 13, 2007 - 08:51am
I highly doubt PETA will be up in arms over CGI animals. If the producers believe that using real animals is a good idea, they're idiots and why anyone would be upset with this being made in light of Vick's fiasco is really a moot point. This is a great story and honestly feel that Del Toro would make this a great story but doubt his involvement. Anyway, check out the comic, it is a touching one.
Gang Duo Option OCEAN Comic - Aug 09, 2007 - 06:39am
Ocean is a great comic miniseries and I have always thought this would make a cool adaptation.
More TOS Characters in STAR TREK XI? - Aug 06, 2007 - 06:15am
What about James McAvoy for Scotty? Makes sense to me. Sinise should definitely be Bones. Looking forward to this.
THE MONSTER SQUAD 20th Anniversary Edition - Aug 02, 2007 - 08:43pm
WOW! I totally remember digging this at 12 years old! I'll never forget the scene where the kids figure out that Alucard is Dracula backwards. I was like, "Whoa." LOL!
DOKTOR SLEEPLESS #1 - Aug 01, 2007 - 08:42pm
Yes, Ellis is such a remarkable wordsmith it makes me wonder if he really is human. desolation jones, authority, black summer, etc etc. Ellis, Moore, Gaiman, Vaughn, Wood, Miller, Millar, Morrison, Veitch, Willingham. Top Ten, baby.
I AM LEGEND 2 on The Way? - Aug 01, 2007 - 08:38pm
Damn, can't a mofo see the first one before they come out with a damn sequel? damn!
JOHN FROM CINCINNATI: His Visit: Day Seven - Aug 01, 2007 - 08:33pm
I agree with jakester, it is a fun show to watch even if some of the dialogue reminds me of Victorian verse from Lovecraft rather than Imperial Beach dialect. A friend of mine who served in the Navy was in Imperial Beach for a while and she stated that she hadn't heard anyone talking like that out there. Milch is a talented writer but sometimes he does go a little above some heads with his craft.
Official Cast for WATCHMEN - Jul 26, 2007 - 07:16am
Last night, I had a revelation that Michael C Hall would have been PERFECT as Rorschach after watching Dexter season one. But, alas, I am just going to wait and see how they handle it.
Oxymandias Is Set for WATCHMEN - Jul 24, 2007 - 10:15pm
mort, you have a very valid point and although I was really open to seeing this made, I just don't know still. ANyways, we'll see next year whether or not it was worth it and then wait ten years for a cable 12 part original miniseries which I think should be done and released to theater every two months for a year with a few additional scenes or tidbits. It just seems like a better idea to make it into a miniseries.
Oxymandias Is Set for WATCHMEN - Jul 24, 2007 - 06:34am
I just don't know anymore. At first I was psyched for this but now, I just don't know. I always thought Ian McShane would make a great Comedian, Ian McKellan as Moloch, Laura Dern as Silk Spectre's Mom and Gretchen Moll as the daughter, Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Nite Owl, Paul Newman in his last role as the original Nite Owl, and man I can't think anymore and now that I look at my list, Ian McShane is the only good pick for any of these. See? I'm just flummoxed!
Caruso, Ellsworth to Take on LAST MAN - Jul 24, 2007 - 06:28am
I am in agreement, this BETTER not be effed up! This is an incredibly human story and I would have hoped Brian would adapt his own work but we'll see.
Lucasarts LIGHTSABER Game for WII? - Jun 28, 2007 - 07:49pm
the circle isn't complete until they can get a game like street fighter and mortal kombat down to wii remote & nunchunk combos (X, Y, Z coordinates, etc) to emulate the power moves. DBZ supposedly offered that but I was disappointed and traded it for godfather.
Lucasarts LIGHTSABER Game for WII? - Jun 28, 2007 - 10:52am
Once you have a Wii, definitely get The Godfather, Resident Evil 4, and avoid the Wii Play; Wii play is weak and why pay ten exra dollars for a mediocre game? Save your ten bucks and get the Wiimote separately and an extra nunchuk controller. Far Cry isn't THAT bad but sure isn't setting any records except for quickest game to go to 20 dollars; decent FPS but again, not that great. Red Steel is OK, nothing great either but anything with FPS and a sword is ok. The controls in Godfather are WAAAAAAAAAAAY better as well as in RE4. Best port for Wii so far. And if you like golf, Tiger Woods' Golf is clutch.
Lucasarts LIGHTSABER Game for WII? - Jun 28, 2007 - 06:48am
Holy shit yes!! I am all for a lightsaber game. If they can port Jedi Outcast, both KOTORs, and make a new one exclusively for the Wii, my wife and I would be in heaven!
KILL BILL 3, 4 Details Emerge? - Jun 27, 2007 - 09:38am
MIKWOZ, you go to film school as well as any of us and it is called your local movie theater. ;-)
OLDMAN To Quit Acting? - Jun 27, 2007 - 07:08am
I would have to agree that this did bring a bit of a downer to the morning. Oldman will be missed on the silver screen.
Fishburne Rescues ALCHEMIST - Jun 27, 2007 - 07:05am
Very cool. The Alchemist is an excellent quick read with a lot of wisdom and enlightening passages of life and what one wants in life. To see this on the big screen will be a nice treat to say the least.
KILL BILL 3, 4 Details Emerge? - Jun 27, 2007 - 07:04am
As much as I want to hate QT, I can't. He has a talent that some may consider too pop-culturish or a ripoff of other film makers but he has burned up screens for quite some time now. Jackie Brown was my least fav of his (but then again I was 21 at the time and one's tastes tend to mature) yet all in all, he is a true auteur of our time. The Sam Peckinpah of our generation with a little French new Wave for fun. LOL And yes, I am looking forward to 3 & 4. Why the hell not??
Butler & Cast Join ROCKNROLLA - Jun 25, 2007 - 07:01pm
Lock Stock was my first foray into Ritchie's work. My girlfriend fell asleep fifteen minutes into it but I watched it and never regretted it. Snatch was good but too much like Lock with the clever setups (like the M Night of dark-o-medy and shit) but still had to buy it. hope he switches it up a bit back to the old school.
Dying to Live - Jun 23, 2007 - 09:07am
As I read the synopsis, I began to think I was reading story arcs for The Walking Dead by Kirkman. Sounds like an interesting read with a few nice twists. Will have to read after Soon I Will be Invincible. Thanks for the review.
KILL BILL's Bride Returns in November! - Jun 22, 2007 - 07:07am
OH YES! What a great anniversary gift for wifey and I. she loved those movies and so did I and I held out in anticipation as well. I love it. But knowing how the DVD world is, there will probably be a 'Lost Edition' as well. But this is great news!!
Fox Searches for New Elvira - Jun 15, 2007 - 11:54am
Get Gretchen Moll! She ruled as Betty Page! Who says she has to have big zazooms?? LOL!
Jacobson Will Control DOMINION - Jun 15, 2007 - 11:52am
I think they may flip it so that the a few of the soldiers turn on the human leader and a few others who refuse to break protocol and help the human soldier who winds u0p being critically wounded and VOILA!!!! the robots who were on her side perform surgery in the jungle to make the human leader a cyborg and she/he kicks some serious ass. And at first I thought this was an adaptation of the Japanese manga by Shirow. Guess not.
White Sinks Teeth Into CASTLEVANIA - Jun 15, 2007 - 11:49am
First Ronin (which I loved) now Castlevania? Well at least Uwe Boll or Kurt "Equilibrium was good" Wimmer aren't involved. Sorry, but Ultraviolet bit it hard. I just want to see the ronin kick some aryan ass. ;-)
Chou Joins Chan, Li in KINGDOM - Jun 15, 2007 - 11:44am
wess, Jet Li is done with martial arts epics and anything revenge-based (only if his character is seeking revenge but I guess other characters can do what they want) supposedly but he will still act in martial arts movies (go figure, maybe he'll be the blind bum espousing wisdom for the ages). Honestly, it would be cooler to see Donnie Yen rather than Jackie Chan in this. I'm still pissed at the Kill Zone aka SPL for what they did to Donnie. Poor bastard.
Picture Pages - Jun 15, 2007 - 11:36am
I would hope that comics don't wind up back under the CA coding system that Frank Miller, Alan Moore, and other brave artists (that includes writers in my opinion; they paint an image for the mind's eye) fought against. Maus was an incredible tale that evoked many different emotions. I have not had the misfortune of having any relatives undergo the tragedy of the Holocaust yet my heart went out to the real victims and their families. Such a tragic time in history. Great article.
Gold Circle Will Investigate THE ARCANUM - Jun 12, 2007 - 11:36am
necroskippy,
it was bbeltdan who was seemingly referring to that-movie-adaptation-that-shall-not-be-named. The comics ruled as the adaptation did not. ;-)
Gold Circle Will Investigate THE ARCANUM - Jun 12, 2007 - 09:03am
Actually, it seems quite different; a man who created Sherlock Holmes and near the end of his days believed in Spiritualism, a man who was good friends with him but didn't believe in magic or anything related to it, a man who wrote stories of gut wrenching horror (who may have been insane) and a woman who practiced magic in Louisiana teaming up to fight a serial killer of angels. Sounds like a good weekend to me. ;-)
Gold Circle Will Investigate THE ARCANUM - Jun 12, 2007 - 07:51am
Sounds like an interesting premise. May have to get the book so I can see what to expect. Or not expect.
Miller Plans on SIN CITY 2 & 3 - Jun 09, 2007 - 10:27am
Miller's next move is actually called The Spirit by Will Eisner but yes, this may take a bit to get out there but the first one didn't really take too long to make; most of the work was post but yes, Sin City rules!
30 DAYS Site Goes Live - Jun 09, 2007 - 10:15am
Very nice looking. Did anyone else get that 28 Days Later vibe with the colors, music, and timing? Looks very slick and I am looking forward to jumping out of my skin in the theater.
Places To Be, People To Kill - Jun 05, 2007 - 06:32am
Lian Hearn seriously impressed me with the Tales of the Otori; I thoroughly enjoyed them and can't wait to read the fourth one. I always assumed that the third tale was it but this news has me excited. Also looking forward to Soon I Will be Invincible!!
Warner Bros. Officially Announces RONIN - May 02, 2007 - 06:54pm
"From the director who captured the magic of the streets in 'Stomp the Yard' comes a timeless story that stretches beyond the mind's eye.......
Ronin!
Starring Tom Cruise as the Ronin, Philip Seymour Hoffman as Billy, Carrot Top as Agat the Demon, Dave Chapelle as Lord Ozaki, Fran Drescher as the voice of Virgo, and PAris Hilton as Casey McKenna. Music by Burt Bacharach from his secret stash!!!"
Can someone please hide the crack and meth from the greenlighters at WB? This is an insult to people who actually would want to see this movie. Get a director who could give this the edge it needs, like Cuaron, Danny Boyle, G Del Toro, Fincher, or even frickin Besson or Kurosawa's long lost stepchild, but not Sylvain. Please let this be a joke or just the first step of the 'Batman' Cycle (Aronofsky-through-Nolan).
Farewell Kurt - Apr 18, 2007 - 05:00pm
My assumption has been dashed!!!! LOL!!! I don't think any less of the MANIACs. Let me go get some mouthwash to get that nasty fungal taste out.
Farewell Kurt - Apr 17, 2007 - 08:04pm
Kurt Vonnegut was truly one of the most gifted, humorous, talents ever to put pen to page. For there not to be at least one comment about this man is truly a shame. A satirist with an uncanny ability to entertain, provoke, and entice, he'll always have a special place on my shelf. RIP.
Zack Snyder updates "Watchmen" - Feb 12, 2007 - 07:59am
Alan Moore will never give his blessing for a script, he has said so himself and I can respect his opinion although I would love to see him involved in the creative process.
"The Boys" gets the Axe - Jan 29, 2007 - 02:28pm
What kills me is that they didn't think to push this to the Vertigo line. There are sooooo many adult-oriented titles on Vertigo that they should just push it over to that line. Sometimes I really wonder about Time Warner, man. More suits making the safe decisions rather than the ones best for the company. I have a feeling someone's feathers were ruffled by a lot of the crude humor. Personally, I think it's pretty fun to show these heroes as they are behind doors.
"The Boys" gets the Axe - Jan 29, 2007 - 08:50am
I have to agree; Simon has done a lot worse. The gerbil bit had me forcing a bit of bile down but overall, considering this is Garth Ennis, it doesn't surprise me at all. Makes me really wonder how "Preacher" will turn out on HBO.
"The Boys" gets the Axe - Jan 29, 2007 - 07:07am
I'm actually quite surprised that DC greenlit this in the first place. This is an awesome series and I'm looking forward to the conclusion.
Fox Searchlight acquires "Joshua" - Jan 23, 2007 - 09:34pm
Hmm, maybe the kid has an alter ego that takes over to punch his sister, kick his dad in the sack, and tell his mother she's adopted. And please, please not like Hide and Seek with DeNiro all wacked out and junk.
maybe reminiscent of village of the damned?
Live-action "Ghost in the Shell"? - Jan 22, 2007 - 11:05am
20105, yeah he sure did want to adapt it. I found this out after I had written 20 pages+ of a pseudo-adaptation and decided to find out if it was being done & that was when I found out Del Toro was in deliberations with Otomo's lawyers for almost five years and then just gave up trying. I am still going to write my little homage to Domu but will change things drastically so as not to invoke the rage of such a masterful artist as Otomo. I even dug Roujin Z mostly because of the departure from normal mecha animes. And yes, Cowboy Bebop will always be on my top 5 list for best animes of all time.
Live-action "Ghost in the Shell"? - Jan 22, 2007 - 06:43am
Aeon Flux wasn't that bad, not great, but it sure wasn't Ultraviolet (one of the few I have actually timechecked at least ten times wondering when this trainwreck was going to end). I for one am excited for a live action version of Ghost. The manga and anime both ruled (although the manga is a lot deeper but hey, you can get but so much of a 300 page plus graphic novel into a two hour anime) and has a lot of promise. Looks like HWood is moving into the anime/manga world for more ideas; Cameron with Battle Angel Alita & Del Toro and his failed attempts to adapt Domu by Katsuhiro Otomo. I wonder if Akira will get the live action treatment? If it does, I say trilogy or quadrilogy. ;-)
