I enjoyed Mr. Coulson's performance in Iron Man. I am very pleased to see he will return.
File it under "Actresses Who Should Have played Black Widow" but up-and-comer Kate Mara has been cast in 'Iron Man 2', according to The Hollywood Reporter. Mara has previously been seen in 'Shooter' and 'Entourage', to name a few. She's not playing Natasha Romanov of course (Scarlett Johansson has that role), so what role is she playing?
That hasn't been revealed yet. The Reporter says her role is being "kept under wraps", which makes us think there's and air of secrecy about it, which then makes us think it's a really interesting role. Could she be Janet Van Dyne in a post-credits walk-on, a la Sam Jackson's Nick Fury appearnace in the first. We have no idea. That's just our first, random guess. We'll find out soon enough.
Also re-joining the cast is actor Clark Gregg, who had a prominent role in the first one as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson, who interacted with Gwyneth Paltrow's character throughout.

You enjoyed Coulson's performance? He barely gave one. Plus he seemed to have a constanst smirk on that I found a bit annoying and not SHIELD like. Either way it's a minor role so no real complains here.
I remember a while back Eva Langoria was seen leaving Marvel offices with a stack of Avengers comic books. Back the the rumor was that she was up for the Wasp/Janet role. Eva would be perfect IMO, but haven't heard her mentioned again. Hope she has that role.
Kate Mara will be Black Widow 2 and will be tasked with taking down BW and IM.
This is a long shot, but maybe, just maybe, Kate Mara will appear briefly as SpiderWoman to further set up the Avengers movie.
Someone is speculating she's playing Sharon Carter, a bridge to the Captain America movie.
Perhps she is actually Black Widow and Johannsson is just afront to hide the fact. ala Liam Neeson really being (SPOILER) ...Ra's Al'Ghul.
I thought the Coulson character seemed more like SHIELD agent Jasper Sitwell-a bookish very smart person whop lways wanted things done by the rules. In fact, is that character still being used in the SHIELD comics?

I also just saw that Wolverine is apparently outselling Iron Man in advance movie ticket sales.

I would tend to doubt that she would be Spider-Woman or Scarlet Wtich. For the Avengers, I think they'll stick to more the original crew (except for the addition of Cap). Sharon Carter is a decent guess. Given her age, build and hair color, my guess is.... Black Widow! That's right. She's the Russian spy known as Black Widow, and gets killed, maybe by Whiplash or the Crymson Dynamo, or someone who tries to frame Iron Man. The Natasha is recruited as the new Widow to solve/avenge her murder, which naturally brings her up against ol' Shellhead.
Oh, and if you look at that old pic of Longoria with the Avengers comics, it looks Photoshopped. Just my personal opinion...
Hype. If it isn't someone with whom we already know who they're playing (i.e. Gregg playing Coulson) then they're going to "keep it under wraps" for just a little while to tighten the tension of anticipation. And you know what, it works. Even with lesser known actresses like Mara. I can't wait to see this.
