No Marc Webb for Amazing Spider-Man 4

Time for a reboot?

Without even the second film in theaters yet, let alone the third, Amazing Spider-Man 2 director Marc Webb, has stated that there is no fourth film for him. In a recent interview with the Daily Beast at the SXWX film festival, Webb stated that he would like to be involved as a consultant.

"I've already talked to these guys about it, but in terms of directing it, [the third film] will close out my tenure. I've had so much fun doing it, but after the third movie, it'll be the time to find something else."

This adds an interesting twist to the development and franchise that Sony has rebooted with Spider-Man. Peter Parker himself, Andrew Garfield, has come out and said that he has one more Spider-Man in him after the second one comes out. So what will that mean to the franchise? Not to mention all the spin offs that are in the works?

Will this mean a reboot or a recasting of the lead? When it comes to Superhero films, three seems to be the magic number. Though Marvel is breaking that trend with multiple appearances in different films. We don’t even have a third Amazing Spider-Man yet, or a third Captain America, or a second Avengers. We do have Batman Forever and Superman III so we know how low are superhero franchise can go.

Toby can play Uncle Ben!

They probably will be recasting Spiderman as well.  Andrew Garfield is only under contract for three films.

I have the perfect plot for SM4.  Peter Parker dies at the end of SM3 because of the Sinister 6, but the end credits show that he was cloned. Thus opening it up to Ben Reilly and the Clone Saga Begins!! groan.

How about in the fourth film, Miles Morales becomes Spider-Man? It's already happened in the ultimate Spider-Man comics.

Now, here is a question? Does Sony own the rights Ultimate Spider-Man? What about Fox and the Ultimate X-Men? To me, thats a loophole for Marvel to use the X-men & Spiderman.

Here is an interesting scoop that I think none of us knew.

Marvel/Disney has the Spiderman TV rights. That means cartoons and live action.

If you recall, 4 years ago, Sony and Disney made a deal how to handle Spidey property. Sony kept the movies, Disney the TV and merchandise. (article was found on Collider "Disney and Marvel Web Up SPIDER-MAN T.V. Rights"

So what that means is, Spidey can appear on one of the Netflix TV series.

Just get a new actor and a new director, but continue the same franchise/storyline.  Another reboot could kill Spider-Man for decades.

I dont understand some people (MArc Webb, Andrew Garfield).  you are making a ton of money, all over the news, u have become a household name thanx to The AMAzing spiderman... And when or if they ask you to continue, YOu say NO???  Why???  where r u goin>??  What will u do now??   Make less money?? have little crappy scenes in movies or direct some horror flicks that make about 30 -35 million worldwide???  I dont get it.. Its spiderman..probably the biggest name is comic book AND  MOVIE history!!!  Anyone would die/kill to do these movies.. why would you quit??

redvector 3/17/2014 1:13:32 PM

Webb and Garfield don't want to be tied this franchise forever. After the third film they'll have enough money to do what they want without being shackled to a studio's franchise schedule.
