The Winter of '84: Dune (Article) - 12/15/2014 5:03:19 AM

I saw this when it first came out, and while this review is spot on, the best way is to watch this flick is to step back, open your sub-conscious mind, and let this monstrosity just lap over you.  If you try to actively assimilate it, you will become frustrated and confused.  That is David Lynch's gift, and his curse, for his film-going audience.

Spider-Man's Cinematic Future (Article) - 12/12/2014 3:32:46 PM

1. Should Andrew Garfield remain as Peter Park/ Spider-Man? His casting in Captain America 3 would bring the two franchises together and some conformity to the two Marvel Cinematic Universes.

Garfield was okay, but he is replaceable and may he should be.

2. If Garfield is out, who would you cast as Spider-Man?

No recommendations for his replacement except the actor should be young.

3. Do you think Sam Raimi will really return after the debacle he had with the studio over Spider-Man 3?

Spider-Man needs Raini more than Raimi needs Spider-Man, but I would welcome Raimi helming the franchise under the Marvel banner.

4. Is the Sinister Six movie a monumentally bad idea or not?

No opinion.

First Look: The Birth of a New Hero in CAPTAIN AMERICA #25 (Article) - 9/10/2014 8:13:25 AM

Since it has already been announced with mych fanfare and ballyhoo that Sam Wilson is taking up the red-white-and-blue shield, this is all pretty anticlimactic and rather self-imdulgent.

Blu-ray Shopping Bag: Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Article) - 9/10/2014 4:28:10 AM

Bob, this entire rant substituting as a DVD review is pretty lame and misses the point.

Not everyone that goes to see superhero movies are rabid comic book fanboys. Most are familiar with the mythos of superheroes but do not have an encyclopedic knowledge of the multitude of storylines and nuances that intertwine present-day comicdom.

Most film-goers are looking to be entertained. The second Captain America movie did just that. The film-makers were successful in achieving that goal. Marvel is doing a good job in developing its own cinematic universe. Making a potentially stodgy character as Captain America cool to a contemporary movie-going audience is not small accomplishment.

I have read some film critics complain about the “sameness” of recent superhero movies. Give me a break! Superheroes movies are now an established film genre like westerns, thrillers, ron-coms, etc., with the prerequisite conventions and narrative parameters. As long as we continue to get films like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, then we have something to look forward to.
