According to the Hollywood Reporter, Marcia Gay Harden and Toby Jones have signed on to join the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist.  They will join Thomas Jane, Andre Braugher, Laurie Holden and Amin Joseph in the cast.

The film, to be written and directed by Frank Darabont, is set after a strange storm blows through a Maine town and its citizens are attacked by deadly creatures. A group of townfolks barricade themselves in a supermarket and struggle for survival.

Harden will play Mrs. Carmody, an outspoken and ultimately divisive member of the trapped group, while Jones will play Ollie, a mild-mannered supermarket manager who is forced to take heroic measures to save his life and the lives of others.

Filming begins this week.

KJ's Take:  I think it would be odd to be one of these D list (Marcia may be C) actors who sign onto a film, then board a plane to go film it.  Much harder than the A listers who sign on months in advance, thus having time to actually research the role.

As for the film, it will likely go the way most Stephen King adaptations have before it.

I`m just glad she`s not a dude. She`d be Mark Gay Hard en.

It had to be said. I`m bored at work.

I remember reading this long ago. Never liked the ending; I thought it pretty much just stopped.
Hopefully, Darabont can find away to make this more than a recycling of Maximum Overdrive.

Same here pony, bored at work and I just got here.

Because I am bored and no one here knows me, I will say I have a bit of a celebrity crush on Ms Harden. She has a steamy under the surface quality to her. I wish she would be cast in a Mrs Robinson kind of role. You know smoldering older women, seduces younger man kind of thing.

Again, don't give me too much grief here, I'm bored at work. As I am a Stephen King fan (read addict here), I will never see this movie. I have never seen a SK movie that I liked ... actually I kind of liked Christine, but that's it ... okay maybe Cujo too ... but really that's it.

I always worry about Steven King adaptations, but having Darabont write and helm the picture makes me feel better about the project. As for Marcia Gay Harden...I think she's simply an amazing actress (not to mention very beautiful), and far from a D or C lister. She's an Oscar winner and two-time nominee. I look for her in moveis, so this is a definite see for me.

I don't think being a C list actress means that you aren't a GOOD actress, rather your just not a big name.

I think it would be a stretch to call her a B list actress, though I will concede C.

I consider her a good supporting actress or part of an ensemble cast but not someone to carry a movie like say a Cate Blanchett, Kidman, Judi Dench or Watts.

Nothing against Marcia, but she is a bad choice. In the book, Mrs. Carmody was an OLD, bible thumping woman with liver spots all over her hands (geez, I remember that from 1984 when I first read it in 6th grade!) and would be better served by someone like that! Too bad Jessica Tandy is gone, she would have been great!

No matter what level an actor and actress is, you got to remember these people are often being paid to go an exotic location (though New England's not too exotic), with free lodging, food, and depending on the film's budget, other perks. Hang out with a cast and crew members who you usually get along with and become good friends, and work with concentrated effort for only a few hours a day, doing stuff you probably loved doing as a kid but are now being paid for. It can be a fun life compared to the usual 9 to 5.

KJ- You're not taking into account Frank Darabont's track record with King's material. Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile.

When I was a kid Pet Cemetary used to scare the crap out of me. I havent watched it in recent years to see if its held up at all.
