Seventh Son Changes Studio Loses Release Date

Warner to Universal

With the recent “divorce” between Legendary Pictures and Warner Brothers the Seventh Son is losing it’s release date. The Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore picture has lost its January 17th, 2014 release date. A new one has not been set yet.

According to the Hollywood Reporter: “The film is moving to Universal Pictures, where Legendary set up shop in July after a long partnership with Warner Bros. Legendary fully financed the Sergei Bodrov-directed Seventh Son, so the Universal release will be a distribution-only arrangement. A Universal rep confirms the studio is taking on the film but says ‘we haven't picked a release date yet’.”

The Seventh Son isn’t the only film affected by this separation. Legendary gave up it’s right to the Man of Steel sequel in exchange for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar

Waracraft (yes, that one) by Legendary Pictures is now being submitted to Universal as well as Hot Wheels, Mass Effect and Cyber. Cyber is the next project by Michael Mann (Last of the Mohicans, Miami Vice) featuring Chris Hemsworth.

We saw this in Hall H at Comic Con.  Looks pretty good.  I didn't know that Legendary was cutting ties with WB.  Kind of sad to hear that, as I have always associated the Legendary logo with the DC movies.  If I am going to have to get used to seeing Star Wars without the 20th Century Fox fanfare, guess I can get used to this.  ;)

I think it looks ok, but that is a BAD sign.

I have a weird feeling concerning Fox and Star Wars that won't go away... Maybe it's just indigestion, or maybe it's that I have a feeling that Fox are going to cut a deal concerning Fantastic |Four with Disney, and maybe after Days of Future Past, and Fox will distribute all these films (including Star Wars) but production will revert to Marvel Studios...

why would Disney want to lose a shit load of money by giving away the Star Wars movie distributon rights?

Does anyone else think Bridges looks just like Oliver Queen from Dark Knight Returns...

Hahaha see my brilliant subject changing banter at work...

I guess I was just hoping that they would some sort of accord and the Star Wars distribution right may get Fox to give Marvel their characters back...

They have up Man Of Steel rights? Hope that's a smart move for them. It could turn into a cash cow. Or without Legendary's help it could tank. We all know how WB does with their comic book movies when left on their own.

I really enjoyed MoS and hope they continue to do well with the sequels.

Hey I had this movie on my watch list, look like a good mid-winter flick to check out.

Oh well.
