Brad Anderson's long-running 'Marmaduke' is the latest comic strip headed to the big screen. 20th Century Fox has signed 'Shanghai Noon' director Tom Dey to bring the lovable but mischievous Great Dane to the big screen.
This will be the dog's first venture into feature film territory. Surprisingly the character has appeared in animation before, guest starring on the cat-oriented toons 'Heathcliff' and 'Garfield and Friends'.
Fox has done well at the box office with animal features, including the live-action/animation hybrids 'Garfield' and 'Alvin and the Chipmunks' not to mention the surprise hit 'Marley and Me'.
The studio is not saying whether this movie will be all animated (like their 2008 CGI hit 'Horton Hears a Who'), a live-action/animated hybrid, or all live-action. Given the choice of directors we're guessing one of the latter two.
Dey's most recent film was 'Failure to Launch'
