Brad Anderson's long-running 'Marmaduke' is the latest comic strip headed to the big screen. 20th Century Fox has signed 'Shanghai Noon' director Tom Dey to bring the lovable but mischievous Great Dane to the big screen.

This will be the dog's first venture into feature film territory. Surprisingly the character has appeared in animation before, guest starring on the cat-oriented toons 'Heathcliff' and 'Garfield and Friends'.

Fox has done well at the box office with animal features, including the live-action/animation hybrids 'Garfield' and 'Alvin and the Chipmunks' not to mention the surprise hit 'Marley and Me'.

The studio is not saying whether this movie will be all animated (like their 2008 CGI hit 'Horton Hears a Who'), a live-action/animated hybrid, or all live-action. Given the choice of directors we're guessing one of the latter two.

Dey's most recent film was 'Failure to Launch'

And I could care less.

I agree.

Without a doubt the most consistantly unfunny strip in the papers since I was old enough to read.

Wake me up when they announce the 'Calvin and Hobbes' movie.

Oh man I so miss Calvin and Hobbes. :-(

Surprised they didn't do this a long time ago, don't remembe him being in the Garfield cartoons though.

I too miss Calvin and Hobbes and would've love to have seen a movie or a cartoon of them. But unfortunately that will never happen cause Watterson is kinda like Alan Moore with his work. But I always thought that kid from Big Daddy would've been a good a Calvin if they were ever to do a movie.

Have we really sunk this low? What's next? "Family Circus" the movie. We can only pray that day will neer come.

This will be like rebooting the Beethoven movies, but instead of a Saint Bernard we'll get a Great Dane.    I would have expected a For Better or Worse movie before Marmaduke.

This may work for the whole Alvin crowd.

Oh, and the expression "I could care less" makes no sense and I see on this board daily.

Maybe Heathcliff will be next. His buddy was a cat on skates. That has got to be good for some sort of laugh.
