Reporter Edward Douglas at Comingsoon took advantage of his discussion with producer Frank Marshall. He hit three major genre franchises with his questions, grabbing the latest on JURASSIC PARK 4, INDIANA JONES & THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL & the possibility of BOURNE 4. For his part, Frank Marshall had things to say about all three projects.

For BOURNE 4;

"There were only three books written. I know they've written a fourth but it wasn't written by Ludlum," Marshall said. "Look, we would love to continue the franchise. We just need a great story, and we're not going to do it unless we have a great story, but we are working on coming up with one, and Matt said to me, ‘Look, you hand me a great script, I'm in.' Unfortunately, we're not able to do any writing at the moment, but we're all thinking about it."

For JURASSIC PARK 4;

He thought that they were still shooting for it to come out in the summer of 2009, but that they were also waiting for the strike to end to further work on the script. "There's an idea and we just have to see if it shakes out."

For INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL;

"It's kind of been out there in the air, but we never had the right script, and we kind of put it on the backburner and then back in 2000, we all went to the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award for Harrison. George and Harrison and Steven and I and Kathy were all backstage all dressed up and we were looking at clips from the movies and we thought, ‘God, those were really fun. Maybe we oughta really focus on trying to do another one." And that's what happened. David Koepp came up with a great script finally, and we're done shooting and now in the editing process. It's pretty amazing."

"What we've done is we moved it from the '40s to the ‘50s so we're acknowledging that everybody's 10 or 15 years older and it plays into the story," he told us when asked about how things would be different from the earlier movies. "We're not trying to hide that Harrison's older, but we have Shia LaBeouf coming in as his sidekick, so we've got a young element. The best way to describe the movie is that it's an Indiana Jones movie. It's got all the style and elements of the old movies, and we're not really trying to do anything different."

not really trying to do anything different eh? Hmmm.... so does that mean it'll be retreading old ground?

They really missed the boat. What they should have done was finally reunite Jones with Shortround, instead of Shia, the greaser. I don't care what year it is, who dresses like that to raid tombs, honestly?

Yet you have no problem with somebody wearing a fedora and a BROWN leather jacket to raid tombs? Ooooookaaaaaaaay.

I do wish they had brought back Short Round though...he was the only thing about "Temple of Doom" that I liked at all.

Lol, they won't use the fourth Bourne-book because it wasn't written by Ludlum? So why didn't they use the second and third book? The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum have nothing from the books. I'm not saying they aren't good movies, in fact I like them, but they're not the books. Even The Bourne Identity has only the initial setup in common with the book. Fact is they couldn't do the second and third book because they changed the story of the first so much.

KJ: You just said it yourself, numbnuts --- there's a fouth book! It's called 'the Bourne Legacy'.

Now get cracking.

As for JP4,

I have the perfect idea for the next Jurassic Park film (which I voiced on the Winging It 3D podcast about 2 weeks back)

Bring back Samual L Jackson with a robot arm!!

We never actually saw him die in JP1, only his severed arm.

He could hold up his robo-arm and be all like, "Damn Velocraptor tore my arm off! And now I'm gonna KILL them!"

Sam Jackson = robo-arm vs Dinosaurs. It's a formula for awesome!

FYI, there is also a 5th Bourne book called the Bourne Betrayal. I could care less that the 4th and 5th weren't written by Ludlum, they were still great reads with good stories. Although by the 5th he must be in his 50's and still kicking ass. Pirre brings up a good point though. They could continue the series using books 2 and 3. It was a shame they never introduced the Jackal especially in Ultimatum. It was a fun movie but felt no different than the second.

Narpin... great idea!

Shia LaBeouf is so overrated. I wish he was doing hard time in prison from that Chicago thing. Keep him out of TF2.

Never read the Bourne books. But that came across as an insult to whoever penned the fourth. Basically saying they need a great story while dismissing the book at the same time.
I loved the first two JP movies. They're going to have to work overtime to come up with something that gets everyone amped up. I think the third killed most people's enthusiasm for this franchise.
I truly believe that Shia LaDuche is going to take over the Indy franchise if this one makes as much money as most people think it will. I just can't see Ford continuing as an action star much longer. Credit to him for doing it this long.

I, too, was under the impression that the only thing the Bourne movies had in common with the books was their titles, so that excuse doesn't fly. The excuse they should be using is that Bourne's story has been told and has nothing more to say. I thought the third one had some solid action, but the story was definitely stretching thin. I say let it rest with 3 flicks and not make a sequel for the sake of making a sequel.

As for JP4, the more robotic arms, the better!
