Marvel has announced their plans to keep the final issues of Fantastic Four on the shelves as they gear up to get the title going with just the Fantastic Three as part of their 2011 shake-up. The plans have gotten some good press around the net largely owing to Jonathan Hickman's writing at this point and the idea of killing off one of the mainstay characters of the Marvel Universe certainly will draw in a crowd. In hopes of there being some mainstream press and interest in this like we've seen previously with other big event news surrounding core characters that a lot of people know about, Marvel wants to make sure the issues stay on the shelves and are offering some encouragement for retailers to get in sizable orders by including a number of variants.

The following issues are entering second and third printing runs so that people just arriving into this event can have the chance to grab the lead-up issues when the big finale arrives in February:

FANTASTIC FOUR #583 THIRD PRINTING VARIANT (NOV108259)

FANTASTIC FOUR #586 SECOND PRINTING VARIANT (NOV108262)

Plot Summary: The end is near for one member of Marvel’s Finest Family and the only place to see the final adventure of the Fantastic Four is in Three! Who will die? Who will survive? And what will the outcome of Three mean for the future of the Fantastic Four? Do not miss out on this stunning conclusion, as it leads straight into the very last issue of Fantastic Four in February!

Sigh... If they keep killing character as a tool to gain attention from the media eventually regular folks (like all us comic geeks have already) will realize death in a comic is NEVER perminant regular folks AND fans are going to loose interest.

It was lame when they did it to Robin and Superman, and it's as lame as the lists this site publishes...all gimmicks, all the time......LAME I say again!

IT kills me to read about this. The Fantastic Four was my favorite book, and Hickman's writing is all right. But to me... it's almost sacriligious to kill off a member of the FF. I'm pretty sure it will be Reed or Johnny, and that blows.

I still haven't read this book in an age and this doesn't encourage me to. The Byrne years continue to be the golden age of it for me.

Chris,I'm in total agreement with you on that. You may want to check out the Mark Waid/Mike Weiringo run(about 3 years worth collected in hardback).I had fun reading these.
