Box Office:  GREEN HORNET is #1

As predicted, the big screen version of Green Hornet took the #1 spot at the box office this week. The movie raked in about $34 million on almost 3600 screens against relatively weak competition. It almost doubled the take of the weekend's other new movie The Dilemma. Check out Mania's full box office report for details.

Catch Up To THE WALKING DEAD

If you missed out on the first run of the smash hit comic book TV show, AMC TV is running a Walking Dead marathon starting tomorrow night. On Tuesday, January 18 at 8/7c, AMC will air episodes one through three. Then on Wednesday night at the same time they'll air the remaining three episodes. This is your chance to see what all the buzz is about.

FX Chief Talks POWERS TV

With Walking Dead breaking out for AMC, you'd think FX would be fast-tracking their adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming's comic Powers. At the recent TCA presentation, the network's president John Landgraf had little new to tell IGN, but did say the project has, "a lot of momentum."

He did note that the two comics are completely different than one another and then gave a progress report.

"We're now on our third writer. It's Chic Eglee who worked on The Shield and worked on Dexter and most recently worked on Walking Dead. And I'm really, really excited about it. I mean, it's gotten better all along, but I think we've had some real creative breakthroughs and I think Chic's doing some really exciting work," Landgraf said.

So, there's still no prospective production or air date for the show, but it is making slow progress.

C2F Quick Hits

  • TV Line has a chat with the producers of Smallville previewing the last leg of the show. The series will potentially see a two hour finale which may or may not feature the wedding of Clark and Lois and the emergence of Superman.

  • Tokyo Hive reports that there are plans afoot for a 3D theatrical movie for Kaibutsu-kun, which is based on a live-action television series, which is based on an anime television series, which is based on a manga originally

  • Many fans noticed what appeared to be a metallic disc on the inside wrist of Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man costume last week, leading to speculation that the new Spidey will have mechanical web-spinners. Now actress Emma Stone has confirmed the speculation for MTV Splash Page. "It's a device," Emma Stone told MTV News during the Golden Globe Awards when asked about the silver discs on Garfield's costume.

  • MTV Splash Page chats up producers Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti about their new hit TV show Young Justice.

  • If you want to win some Green Hornet swag, Ain't It Cool is the place to go.

  • If you're a film professional working near Albuquerque, New Mexico, OneHeadlightInk.com has the details on how you can join the production of Marvel's Avengers movie.
  • Thanks to AntoBlueberry for the submission.

BLACK PANTHER Footage

MTV Splash Page has a clip from the (barely) animated Black Panther TV series, which arrives on DVD and Blu-Ray this week. They also chat with Reginald Hudlin, who wrote the comics that the show is drawn from, and developed the series for BET.

SPIDER-MAN, THOR, CAPTAIN AMERICA - Marvel Movie PhotoMANIA!

There's been a flurry of cool photos for Marvel movies coming online over the past week.

We already saw the Spider-Man costume last week. Now Superhero Hype has a great set of photos of actor Denis Leary as Captain George Stacy, arriving on the scene in an NYPD helicopter and wearing battle gear. We've got one image here, but click through for the set.

Then Entertainment Weekly provides a new look at Chris Hemsworth as Thor, wearing the scowl of a vain and cruel boy...

Finally, The L.A. Times rolled out a new action photo of the Captain America costume, though there's a weird flatness to the image that makes it look like a terrible composite job.

Chris Evans as CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER

Black Panter: was horrible

Dylan DOG : Id like to see a trailer , on it before I go one way or another on it

POWERS: I really wish they would get this together soon , we need another great show on the air , so much crap on now its not even funny.

Marvel Pictures : they all look great, Leary is a great actor , and he makes a great Captain Stacy, this is another brilliant casting choice, just like Oldman as Gordon.

Thor looks good, no complaints here, He looks like the Thunder God

Captain America: another great shot of the Star Spangled Avenger

So Captain Stacy is being played by the Green Goblin's twin, interesting.  Can anyone confirm or deny that Dennis O'Leary and Willam DeFoe are in fact actually the same person?  It's crazy how much they look alike.

Still diggin' the Cap pics, but this one may be my least favorite to date.

I actually kind of liked the G.I. Joe movie, but I guess that is because I checked all expectations at the door.  I just hope they find an uber hottie to play Lady Jaye.

The most interesting piece of news: Web-shooters. Nothing to say about it but still...

GI Joe 2: Lose the accelerator suits, work on Baroness's girly voice and the rest I can live with...

Was that Black Panther clip a joke? Is he of Asia descent in this movie?

ThrillerSam 1/17/2011 8:28:39 AM

... or show I mean.

8man 1/17/2011 8:46:21 AM

I'm really getting interested in this new Spider-Man.  Ditching the organic web shooters?  Check.  Ditching MJ and starting with Gwen Stacy?  Check.  Embracing some of the John Romita stuff and getting great actors to play in supporting roles?  Check.  Looks good.  I think this Spider-Man will be everything Raimi's wasn't.  Which by the way, was a lot.  I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the cry-fest number 3 was.  Ugh.

Cap looks great.

I saw the Green Hornet.  It was fun.  They left it wide open for a sequel and I hope we see one.

The Black Panther footage looks similar to the 1966 Marvel Superheroes cartoons I grew up. Not really animation so much as still panels being moved around.  Interesting.

I'm looking forward to Capt. America, however, that is definitely not Evans in the pic. It looks like a stunt double based on how loose fitting the suit is on the guy. Looking back at the other pic of Evans in the suit you can see it's a better fit. And, is it just me or does the pic look photoshopped?

I hope Powers get done soon. I liked the premise of the comic and a series would rock if done right.

Still not excited about Spidey...

violator14 1/17/2011 9:00:19 AM

Yes Thrilersam, the black Panther thing is a joke. If it's a show, then the joke is on us.  Either way it's a joke!

wessmith1966 1/17/2011 9:09:03 AM

I like what I've seen of Spider-Man so far. Emma really looks great as a blonde and Andrew looked good in costume.

Thor looks great. I remember the first image we saw where the chainmail looked kind of plastic. Everything since that image has looked great!

Captain America looks great and I think his costume is terrific. Can't wait for this movie!

Black Panther looked pretty awful. That kind of animation was fine in the 60s, but doesn't play well today. I'd love to see a Black Panther movie with Chiwetel Ejifor playing T'Challa.

I don't care if Lois and Clark get married, but the show needs to end with Clark donning the suit and flying off to save the world.
