Marvel Select Moon Knight
By: John DenningReview Date: Saturday, July 22, 2006
Recently Marvel Comics started a new ongoing series for everyone's favorite cowl-wearing, gadget-wielding crime-fighting billionaire vigilante of the night (ok, second favorite). In the spirit of the series, Marvel Select has just released their latest high-end poseable figure, Moon Knight. Sculpted by Paul Harding, the figure shows a nice attention to detail and definite affinity for masked avengers, as Harding also gave us the Matt Wagner Batman Black and White statue debuting at San Diego Comic Con this year.
Similar to Past Marvel Select figures, Moon Knight has less articulation points than figures in the Marvel Legends line while making up for it in added detail, complete with two crescent "moonarang" throwing weapons. The paint job casts an appropriate gritty pall over the off-white costume, and the stretched fabric molding makes Moon Knight looks frighteningly huge (though possibly uncomfortable in his tighty whiteys). The whole mold is reminiscent of David Finch's art from the new comics. Those of you going for maximum poseability, on the other hand, can wait for the Moon Knight Marvel Legends figure due for release with Series 15.
So why buy the Select figure now? It's all about Khonshu. Moon Knight's patron deity gets its own mini-idol with the figure, with equal levels of detail. While Sister Mary Margaret from your Sunday school days may not approve of this on your mantle, you'll have a hard time not saying a quiet prayer or two to the god of vengeance for superpowers of your very own, or at least a Mooncopter with accompanying French chauffeur.
