The calling shot was heard over at Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios. Just a day or so after Sony Pictures made it clear they wanted to open the summer 2014 season with a launch of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on May 2, the studios controlling their Avengers superheroes have responded with two release dates of their own set aside for the same summer.

The only issue is they didn't say the titles/characters of those releases. Only that they would have one comic movie strike theaters on May 16, 2014 while the other hits a month later on June 27, 2014.

You can feel free to speculate on what those characters will be, Maniacs. By using the process of elimination, you can likely count out Iron Man or Thor sequels. Both characters hit the summer 2013 line-up, with Iron Man 3 flying into houses on May 3, 2013 and Thor 2 on July 26, 2013.

The Avengers is set to kick-off next summer on May 4, 2012 so its sequel could be considered a possibility. Same for Captain America 2. Name your other possibilities below for the 2014 tent pole season.

Maybe that's when they'll do an Ant-Man movie. Didn't they get the rights back to Punisher or Daredevil if so it could be one of those. It could be a movie based on S.H.E.I.L.D. and Nick Furry.

I personally don't care to see ANOTHER Punisher flick.  Why not an Avengers 2?  Why go through all the trouble to put the group together if they aren't going to remain a team.  Then you can add characters like Hank and Janet Pym.

I think Ant-Man is a pretty sure bet being that Wright has turned in a script and even gave it a "treatment" or whatever is they call it when they polish it.

For the second film I wouldn't be surprised if it's Captain America 2 provided this one crosses the 300mil mark, cause if not I think they may put Cap in the backburner ala Hulk.

I highly doubt that it'll be Avengers 2. I think that's the sort of franchise that you definitely don't want to rush from film to film. I think you let it breathe a little bit and give it at least 3-4 years between sequels meanwhile you have all the members rumored for their own films

I highly doubt avengers 2 it is dificult to write good stories with such and unsemble cast and not everyone may return- downey's contract ends with iron man 3 if i remember right-  Daredevil is a posibility because that has been reported on within the last year..

They may come at us out of left field and dew a whole new charachter-  Id love to see something like moon knight be done if a JMS storyline is adapted. there are so many different charachters marvel has to go with there is no telling what or who the movie will be about.

Ant man movie will make as much as Electra about a super hero the general audience never heard of.   I'm going with Avengers 2.

Wiseguy 8/9/2011 7:41:27 AM

Other possiblities that have been rumored or mentioned by Feige are Dr Strange, IronFist, The Inhumans and The Runaways I believe are the ones that they have hired writers for to turn in a script

Luke Cage, Black Panther, Blade and Punisher have been talked about but I haven't heard any writing being in progress.

Anyway we'll find out for sure in a couple of weeks when D23 gets under way. Nice way for Disney/Marvel to build some anticipation for the event. I read they also have some Pixar announcements too.

I really think that Black Panther is long, long overdue.

While that would be my bet for 2014, I think Marvel has never been excited about one of their most prominent black superheros. I want to see a strong story, mature direction and wise casting. No silly sidekicks. No need to overstress anyone's blackness (which Hollywood tends to promote) Frankly, I don't want to see the self-indulgent messes that we've seen, say, like in the remake of Shaft or Bad Boys 2. Stay away from John Singleton. Give it to the Hughes Brothers.

As a side note, PLEASE don't cast Tyrese Gibson as Luke Cage. Dude is too pretty and he will turn it into a vanity piece where he can pose. Give Luke Cage to an actor who looks like he's seen hard times and from the streets: Terry Crews (The Expendables).

Wiseguy 8/9/2011 7:46:59 AM

Hobbs you may be right but Feige himself has said that they're not going to solely concentrate on A-list or big budget films. They are going to do lesser known characters and aim for 30-50 mil productions. And with all the buzz and fairly goodwill Marvel has earned I think they'll manage to make a profit out of just about anything as long as they don't make the IM2 mistake of rushing to accomodate a release date

Is Universal holding on to the Hulk property for the time being?  If not, maybe Disney is trying its own Hulk movie version in 2014, unless Universal's ownership of the property is similar to Sony/Spiderman or Fox/X-men.

I can't see Ant Man... he doesn't really work in the "real" world that the Avengers have devoloped. I mean look at the Atom in the JLA movies years ago. There was no need for him. The Avengers are set. If they add in a 2nd movie it would likely be the Black Panther. I Could see him getting his own movie... not a bad comic cartoon like what came out. Hawkeye movie? Nah...
