The Hollywood Reporter has broken probably the biggest news in all of comicdom today. Marvel Entertainment had announced that they would release a new picture in the summer of 2016. Only Marvel knew for sure which one, allowing us all to speculate. Would it be Doctor Strange, Black Panther, a sequel, or something else? Jump to the fact that the Man of Steel sequel, the Batman and Superman movie pushed back their release date to May 6th, 2016. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Marvel and Disney will release the third Captain America film... May 6th, 2016. That’s right Maniacs, we are going to have a box office showdown on our hands.

From The Hollywood Reporter: "the film Warner Bros.' Batman and Superman movie will go up against on May 6, 2016, is Captain America 3... Marvel films have all but owned the first weekend of summer for the past decade to enormous success, so all of Hollywood was surprised when Warner Bros. announced in January that it would open Batman-Superman on May 6, 2016 as well”.

Now a lot can happen between now and then. A lot of industry insiders doubt that the two films will really be released on the same day. What do you think Maniacs? As for my two cents, I see this as a great box office showdown. We will have that age old comic shop discussion, Marvel vs. DC played out for us on the big screen; with voting done by the masses. Yet, can’t we just see one film and then another, in the same day? Will Marvel and DC (and their parent companies) really be judging the dollars gained by the hour? It has never been done before and that is the appeal, for me anyway. The other side of the box office battle is if one studio withdraws from that day. Whichever film backs out first, supplies the other with enormous bragging rights.

Sound off below! I know you will.

ElBaz mentioned a report that WB had already moved up their film a week. The report states Brazil and US specifically.

If not we have a true DC vs Marvel fight. It's DC's top 3 vs 1 of Marvel's best. DC would definitely win this fight IMO but both will bleed some customers

Just checked Wiseguy, officially haven't moved it yet.

Wiseguy 3/13/2014 5:22:53 PM

I'd be shocked if one or the other didn't move. This could still be a last minte decision

Once the movies are down to their final edits who ever feels more confident about their film can open Wednesday, get a jump start with the word of mouth and a jump start at the box office. Although that could also cost them the bragging rights for the weekend.

Man this is fun

Oh yeah, the Midnight show and all that, but they could both do that. Imagine the incentives, they'll offer. Plus throw in the all day screenings. The Man of Steel and then Batman and Superman seems quick. Marvel can have an all day event if they throw 2 Avenger movies and both Caps!

Im a huge Marvel fan, but this will be the first movie with Batman and Superman.  It's been highly anticipated for many years.  My bet is that Batman vs Superman will win this battle.

There's going to be a third Captain America movie?  Wow...the excitement never starts.

Without Christian Bale as Batman, and having a "brand new" Batman reboot, I think any Marvel movie with an (or all of the) Avenger(s) in it would win....put Bale's Batman in and it would be a Cakewalk for DC...

From all the news we have already heard about Batman vs. Superman, the dubious casting, and Zack Snyder's comments about going off course with the characters, I see Marvel with an easy win.  Captain America:TWS looks AMAZING.  And a lot of fans didn't like TDK Rises or MOS.  DC is doing this ass-backwards and Marvel is doing everything the right way.  I think DC is trying to get Marvel to blink, and I don't see Marvel blinking.  If the next Cap movie does huge box office, DC had better re-think this.

Just my 2 cents.

I am absolutely rooting for DC. They're the underdog now. Unpopular casting decisions and the Flash's costume looks a little underwhelming. I'm still hoping they'll get it together and take their material seriously. Someone needs to be appointed with a vision and pull this together. DC's version of Kevin Feige.

Steve vs. Ace and Gary. Should be interesting.
