Mary-Jane gets new boyfriend in SPIDER-MAN 2

Variety is reporting that Daniel Gilles has won the role of Mary-Jane Watson's new boyfriend in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, a.k.a. SPIDER-MAN 2. But for those of us familiar with the litany of Spider-Man's supporting cast members, the name of MJ's new beau will be familiar...

Gilles' character is John Jameson, astronaut. That's right, he's the son of Daily Bugle publisher J. Jonah Jameson...and he also went on to become Marvel's Man-Wolf.

Now as far as anyone knows, the John Jameson character that will appear in SM2 won't change into a werewolf, so it's probably just one of Sam Raimi's fun in-jokes to the comic book fans in the audience.

Filming commences this coming Saturday on the Spider-sequel.
